Has any of the Golden Gopher fans heard about this PG? He's the top ranked player that hasn't signed a LOI. I posted something to this similar on the UK page but it didn't go anywhere so I figured I'd ask the other school atop on his list. Some sites have him listed as highly interested in UK and Minnesota. Others say he's highly interested in Indiana. I know he visited Indiana not too long back but that's about it. Anything else would be great.

Just what little I've read. He's listed as a point guard but at 6'4", and being more of a shooter than a playmaker, might end up a 2 guard. I've also read the Gophers are supposed to have the inside track on this guy, but he's apparently considering quite a few schools.

I'm kinda getting annoyed by him. He seems to be more interested in feeling wanted by as many teams as possible than actually figuring out what school is the best fit. There is such a thing as too many options, and when the kid is trying to get interest from new schools this late in the recruiting game, it suggests rather strongly that he lacks judgment. Talent-wise, he's good, but not great. He'd be a 4 year bench player at most of the schools on his list. I'm not even sure he'd start at Minnesota, given Tubby's recent recruiting success.
I say, move on without Jones or Faber, since we have 5 recruits in this class that are better than both!!! Save the scholarships for next year.

Saw this little blurb in Sid's column:
Meanwhile, Verdell Jones, the 6-4 guard from Champaign (Ill.) Central, who the Gophers are recruiting along with Indiana and others, visited the campus Wednesday. Jones, who was a Illinois Class 3A All-State player, is not being recruited by Illinois for some reason.

That's not really true. Illinois did offer him a scholarship, and he attended some of their games. Jones just made it clear that he wanted to go elsewhere to be on a team with a shot at a championship. That's not far-fetched to through Minnesota in with Indiana and Kentucky, considering the recruiting classes Tubby Smith is putting together. I'm just glad that he views Minnesota as a better program than Illinois, because they seem to have our number lately.

I thought I heard on the news that Tubby did land someone this week. I think they said he was ranked 32 in the country (whatever that means).
However, I havent heard anything since and couldnt find anything online. He was a MN kid though. Any idea what they where talking about?

Royce White perhaps? Strib:
White, the former De La Salle star who now attends Hopkins, called Gophers coach Tubby Smith on Wednesday morning to verbally commit. White, considered a top 50 national recruit, had also attracted interest from UCLA, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Arkansas.
Apparently his commit also may help them land Rodney Williams
Rodney Williams, the state's other top junior, said Wednesday that his AAU teammate's decision has moved the Gophers up on his personal list.

Jones has apparently cut his list to MN, UK, IU and Arizona. It sounds like he will make a decison on Monday. I think he'll end up selecting IU, but who knows. It seems like his best opportunity to play right away.
All I know is that it's just nice to see the Gophers included on such an impressive list of schools.

Eh I would rather move on then sign this guy. He could be good, but if he still hasnt decided what school he wants then he might not be totally into our concept.
As for Royce White.. Im pumped! 6'7" silky smooth plus hes got connections with my boy Rodney Williams Jr. who i've known since I was in 5th grade.
Gophers are turning into a big ten power!

Hey, as many times as this kid seemed to flip-flop, maybe he did choose the maroon and gold, and a couple other teams, before he finally had to stick with a decision.
