Is it sad and or pathetic that the most exciting part of April for Islander fans is the draft lotter tonight?  I'd much rather be gearing up for playoff games (other than rooting AGAINST the Rangers)...  but at least we get something...  and if they do land that first pick, we can begin dreaming for next year already!

im real excited. even if we had made the playoffs i dont believe this team was equipped to do anything once they are there. so atleast we have a chance to get a real difference maker in a very deep draft. its possible w can get the #1 pick. we did it in 2000 when we were the 5 and won the lottery and the Blackhawks did it last year.but even if they stay at 5 they can get a really talented young player who can probably come in immediately. if we are at #1 we draft stamkos. at #5 i say we still need a #1 center. either kyle beach or cody hodgson. with the young guys we have and the guys we get this year we will be ready to build towards being a contender.

Shouldn't you wait until your team finishes the playoffs to worry about this.  Oh my bad they didn't make the playoffs - I just can't understand how a team like the Islanders with all that talent and wealth of over qualified management you have, didn't make the playoffs.  I definately think they need to have a recount of the points.

Get used to it - this is what your Aprils are going to be like for a long, long, long, long, long time

Or you can always jump on the Ranger bandwagon - there's plenty of room

Sean Avery do u know what ur talkin about? the isles are building with young talent. they re picking 5th overall so they will get another talented player. we also have two 2nd rounders and two 3rd rounders in an extremely deep draft. our gm made smart moves. your right we didnt make the playoffs this year. but within two year when our young guys are peaking and bringing us to the playoffs your team will have cap trouble from signing to many over priced free agents. the rest will be retiring. a bunch of old men. the Rangers are not really that good. they will get bounced in the second round. besides didnt we just take the season series against u doushes?

And it seems that as with everything else this year, luck just does not follow the Isles. Granted, they had a less than 10% chance of winning the number 1 pick, but with everything else that happened to this franchise this year, I was hoping for a smile from Lady Fortune. Oh well.

I'm saying it right now. This summer I need to see something Garth. I understand that some of the issues of last summer (most prominently what went down with Smyth) are not his fault. But at some point there needs to be accountability here, and it's not like Snow had front office experience to begin with when he took the job.

Maybe it's just that I'm frustrated with this franchise at the moment. I will admit it's painful to see every other team from the Atlantic Division in the playoffs, and I know the Islanders didn't belong there this year. But Snow needs to start leading this team in some sort of direction, and it should start with the number 5 pick and some good FA signings.

That number 5 pick is a tricky one...  I'm sure the Islander Scouts are way smarter than I am and know tons more, but it might be a trade-able pick, not necessarily up, but down...  After Stamkos, picks 2, 3, 4, and maybe 5 are defensemen...  While the Isles could use a strong skating power-play qb (Bogosian, Doughty, Pietrangelo) and you can never have enough shut-down defensemen (Schenn), they need offense - skilled forwards who score.  Filatov is probably the logical choice with the 5 pick, Boedker might also be a good choice at 5, but a guy like Colin Wilson would be around a few picks later and might be a good fit to let Okposo become the scorer and open up some ice for him...
Truth be told, I was disappointed when they didn't win the lottery (not that I really thought they would, but it would've been nice), there are no losers with the first 7 or 8 picks...  so they're going to get someone good.  They've got a nice core of young talent already, maybe they can pull a rabbit out of a hat and get a veteran scorer (or one of the guys they already have will step up and become what they're supposed to be)...

I have no clue about junior guys or even college palyers, but I agree we could use a PP QB type defenseman and a forward with real goal scoring skills.  Someone to play on Okposo's line .....

Yeah OK keep dreaming Isiah - I guess taking the season series means a lot right now.  But you take that thought to bed with you tonight it will keep you warm and secure

honestly im against taking defence that high. defensive guys are notoriously hard to develop.most top 10 defensive guys in the past 10 years have been busts. we would be better off trying to take a center and there is a few of them at that 5 pick. although i also believe in taking the best player available whether you need that position or not. so that could be nikita filitov.
