I think what Freeman does not understand is that the reason the average sports fan watches a game, is because we like to see athletes do things that we can not do. Whenever I have watched women's basketball (which usually lasts about 2 minutes) I think to myself, "You know, I could go down to the local gym and see that level of basketball." Women's basketball has no "Wow!" factor.

That is why women's basketball is not entertaining.

I totally agree with you.  I have never watched a ladies basketball game at any level and said wow.  Even when I saw a dunk I had a hard time getting excited about it.  One of the main selling points of any athletic event is its entertainment value and I find that watching Ladies basketball come in low in the entertainment scale.

Exactly. Just because it's better dosen't mean it somehow deserves accolades and viewership. And most guys don't watch women's tennis because of the quality of play. They just want to be the official locker room towel boy.

Actually pabama, most tennis fans would rather watch a women's tennis match as at least there are volleys where in the men's game it is more about the power of the serve.

Most tennis fans probably do. I always enjoyed watching Hingis play; her style always made me think she was playing chess more than tennis. The men's game, between conditioning and equipment, seems to be baseline to baseline action. As a kid, I loved watching men's tennis. Now, I couldn't name more than five or six men's players.

However, as I stated, most MEN (not necessarily tennis fans) watch women's tennis because there are a lot of hot chicks that play tennis and wear short skirts. No matter how good the play, most MEN won't really care. The point being even the most popular women's sports will never reach the equivalent of popularity of the most popular men's sports. The entire article about women's b-ball reaching the quality of men's b-ball and what the consequence of this is was pointless.

gabefra you hit the nail on the head.  It isn't that I'm "anti" women's bball, it just isn't entertaining.  Most women's NCAA players are equivelent to a 30yr old good men's rec player.  Now, there are exceptions (C. Parker, D. Taurasi, etc) but the women's game itself is enough to make Dr. Naismith roll over in his grave.

That being said, I am happy the women do play and I'm happy the WNBA exists, I just don't have any desire to watch that level of bball.
