The fact that A-Rod makes more that the Marlins whole team or That the Marlins whole team makes less than the highest paid player in the game?

Its not even close. You can't just put A-rod on there when there are 2 other guys, giambi and Jeter also making more plus guys like Manny, Ichiro, Santana, Beltran, helton, Torri Hunter all making within a servicable relief pitcher of the Marlins too.

It is sad that the marlins are where they are at. At least when you are talking about the other small market teams they are at least closer to the $50 million range than anything else.

Even if the marlins open up their wallets, i just don't see top flight free agents flocking their way to south florida to sign. They need to get that team out of there.

I put Arod there cause hes the top paid player thats all. Not a bias or anything. Ive already covered that. Should the Marlins be contracted? Should there be a minimum salary like in hockey?

I say its both sad that one player can make more than a whole team and that florida has a cheap @ss team like the marlins.

Excellent Post EMTB...Not much for me to add, other than that I agree...I stated yesterday that a salary minimum is as important and is as needed as a salary cap....I think the Marlins pocketed something like $70 million in revenue sharing so a payroll of $18 mill is quite ridiculous

Even the worst team in baseball is gonna win 60 games. Thats terrible logic. And if it matters... they barely won. But it doesn't. The point is the Marlins SHOULD take a game of a series with ANY opponent, statistically. We'll see what happens to tonight.

But there will never be a salary floor, because that would require a salary cap. And the players union would never allow a salary cap.

Whoa.... dude.... touchy..... its two games into the season for both squads... I couldnt careless i am merely stating what happened last night. I had the Mets sweeping this series easy, almost touched it in the "real world" to be honest. I was merely stating a fact, not trying to combat anything.

But since your on the subject of  "SHOULDS":

Any team who has a 7 game lead in their respective division with 17 games remaining SHOULD win that division......

I absolutely disagree 100%. The owners in baseball are all rich and just choose to spend their money different. SOme owners care more about winning and some care about keeping costs low.

Here is the response from Marlins managment.

Some owners feel that it takes high priced talent to win championships, other owners realize that there is some unrecognized talent that is more affordable and better suited for the team as a whole than the highest paid players in all of MLB.  Thus it is possible to win championships without paying top dollar for individuals.

This is a made up quote.

I don't know why, I just felt like throwing that out there.  I don't exactly agree with the quote myself, but I imagine that the Marlins management would provide a response somewhat similar to this.

Personally, I am just getting tired of seeing the Marlins roller coaster payroll.  If this were a consistent payroll for the Marlins, that would be one thing.  but considering the ups and downs of their payroll over the last few years, I am just glad that I am not a fan of the Marlins.
