Guess what "Caniacs," all those predictions about how the Capitals would need a monumental collapse by the Hurricanes to make it into the playoffs just went out the window. I guess I'll make my point once again, it's tough to avoid the criticism you guys bring upon yourselves by proclaiming that by beating up bad teams to go on a mini win-streak that you are the team to beat in the East, when suddenly you might miss the playoffs by losing the division to a late-surging Capitals team. Two weeks ago when I said this, I was attacked by all of the Hurricanes "fans" about how this could never happen since the Hurricanes had such a "huge" lead on the division and it would take them falling apart to lose the division. Well, a loss tomorrow night puts the Capitals in excellent position to do what you deemed impossible: steal the division and the playoff spot right away from the Hurricanes. I'm going to assume all the usual excuses will come back if this does happen (ex. man-games lost, key players being out, playing in a close division, etc.), however, as I've said probably twenty times this season, the Hurricanes are not as good as you think, they haven't lost as many man games as say... Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington Capitals, Edmonton Oilers, etc. Your key players aren't any more valuable than their key players (all three of those also lost their captains for parts of the season), and the division is close because it is bad. If it wasn't for a poor start by the Capitals, they easily cruise through the Southeast and win it, however, even with a seemingly insurmountable lead (as many of you had said), the Capitals may still knock you from that playoff spot. It might be time to start fixing the table for some crow...

You show how classless you are by jumping on this message to try and put our team down, does it make you feel good about yourself, you must be worried about your own team after losing last night, lose one more and you will be dealing with a Monumental Collapse. While other teams may have had as many injuries, none have had as many injuries to key players as the Canes. No excuses, I'm proud of the way they have fought back and played since the break, if they make it, great, if not they are set up for a great season next year. I have not seen anyone posting on this board that the Caps had no chance, or that the Canes had an insurmountable lead. Don't come on this board and post anymore until you learn good sportsmanship, and can have a decent and fair minded conversation about hockey, or you might be having a little of the crow yourself.....

Your team has been playing great as of late and has made this last week too interesting for my tastes. Now, I am not saying that we are definately going to hold on, but the fact that we own the tie-breaker certainly helps. I am hoping that you guys are due for a loss and should we beat you in regulation, it becomes a moot point. It is not over yet, unfortunately.

Not sure what you are referring to, but Canes will take the Division, regardless with 3 games remaining. Guess the water is a little thin around the nation's capital area.

You may wish to reconsider your remarks. Tonight Washington has tied for the lead in the SE division. A loss to TB at home tomorrow puts the Canes in a very precarious situation regarding the playoffs, and by Friday you could be on the outside looking in.

Had to check in here to correct some seriously misguided Capital fan.... I didn't even know the Caps still/ever had fans. First off, a compliment.... the new "old style" jerseys you switched back to are a marked improvement over that blue/black/orange crap you had with the Capitol building on front. Good for you.
Anyway, it would take a collapse by the 'Canes for you to win the division. If the Caps win in regulation Tuesday night, the teams will be tied, but Carolina would still hold the tie-breaker. That leaves each team 2 games left, both playing TB and FLA at home, two teams they "should" both beat. A tie doesn't get the Caps into the playoffs, although they could steal the 8-spot from Philly if they don't win the division. Basically, it would take the Caps winning out, while the 'Canes probably would have lost 4 (or more likely 5) out of their last 6. In my mind, regardless of injury, that qualifies as a "collapse".
That being said, you have an awful lot of balls to talk smack to 'Canes fans. The Caps may be the one team (aside from the most recent expansion teams) that has had a worse history than the Whaler-'Canes. No Cups ever!! One Finals "appearance", where they couldn't muster a win against the Red Wings. Not to mention the EPIC series of playoff collapses throughout the 80s and 90s. How about the worst record EVER for an entire season, going 8-67-5 in 1974-75? They did improve the next year by winning...... a whole 11 games.
The 'Canes, while having a bit of a checkered history, have never sunk to those depths. Two Cup appearances, winning one. Never had mental giants like Craig Berube, Dale Hunter or Chris Simon, the last two being among the dirtiest players EVER, on the team, thank god!! (OK, so we did have Kelly Chase, Stu Grimson and Donald Brashear.... but I think we can all differentiate between goons and wanna-be street thugs). We can share blame for Torrie Robertson's NHL existence.
Anyhow, the fact is this. The 'Canes control their destiny this season, EVEN IF they lose tomorrow night. A win tomorrow and your rant is moot.

Typical, way to assume that because I say something anti-Hurricane that I'm an "idiot" Capitals fan. I'm a Rangers, Predators, and Canadiens fan, and a fan of hockey in general. As for the Capitals fans being moronic, well, I know several, and they remain among some of the most respectable and knowledgeable fans in the game, more than I can say for the multitude of drunken, disrespectful, idiotic Hurricanes fans I know (I know many fans, and very few knowledgeable and respectful ones). That's why I made the post, it's easy to dish it out, not so easy to take it.

One last point as I actually went back and read your nonsense... of the three teams I support, all have history. Nashville Predators - going for the first expansion team in NHL history to make 5 consecutive post-season births. New York Rangers - more Hall-of-Fame players than Carolina has total players, 4 Stanley Cups are greater than 1. Montreal Canadiens - 24 Stanley Cups, enough said. So, guess your rant about how "wonderful" the Hurricanes are compared to the Capitals is pretty moot, since you are speaking about moot points. As for the Canes never sinking to those depths, they joined some pretty exclusive company by missing the playoffs after winning the Cup, so I'd say that's sinking. Should they do what you claim to be nearly impossible and lose the division and miss the playoffs again this year, they will be one of three teams in the history of the NHL to miss the playoffs two consecutive years after winning the Cup. Again, that's sinking into some pretty bad history there, isn't it? Or does that not count because it's about your beloved team that no one in Carolina knew existed until they made a run to the Finals? I thought so.
