Doyel compares the Davidson (10 seed) win over Georgetown (2 seed) to the George Mason (11 seed) win over UConn (#1, 1 seed) and tourney favorite back in 2006. Davidson was favored in Vegas to beat the 7 seed Gonzaga, so Vegas at least thought they’d be there…

I’d say the win is more like Mason’s 2006 2nd round win over defending national champion, North Carolina (3 seed) in 2006; because G’Town was in the Final Four last year. If Davidson takes out Wisconsin and then beats Kansas , I’ll buy what Doyel’s selling. But it will be the win over this year’s Kansas team (not the Georgetown team) that is comparable.

Sorry Davidson. I love spell check and should have previewed this post. My fault.

In my haste, I copied in text I was writing in MS Word and it "cleaned" my file. Wow - now I've got code all over it. Thanks Bill Gates. It should have read:

I don't think you can compare Davidson and George Mason until Davidson gets to the Final Four.

I do think that Davidson's victory over Georetown is more impressive than the George Mason victory over UNC.

The Wisconsin game will be tough for Davidson because Wisconsin will not beat itself. Put it this way - if Wisconsin gets a 15 point lead like georgetown had and like Gonzaga had, the game is over. Davidson won't come back from a deficit like that against a team like Wisconsin.
