Arguably the top 2-guard in the 08 recruiting class is seriously considering VU. (scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=1752095) He is the only 5-star recruit not to have signed by now. He is from southeastern PA.
My take on this is that he would like to go to VU, but he sees the number of quality guards already on the roster. If Scottie Reynolds goes pro this year, I think it is a no-brainer that he selects VU. He would be a great fit, especially since he has the size of a true 2-guard, unlike most of VU's best guards. He'll get the opportunity to be a 15 minute per game contributer as a freshman. I suspect he also wants to develop point guard skills and we know how good VU is at preparing point guards for the NBA.
However Scottie is having a good year, not a great year, at least in contrast to the amazing second half of last year. If he continues to nurse nagging injuries he may not be in a good position to enter the draft this year.
I love the two freshmen point guards, but Jay may also be thinking about the next few years when he chooses to give Scottie the extra minutes and extra opportunities to flaunt his abundant skills.
Scottie Reynolds? He's going to have to start playing a whole lot better this season if he wants to consider going into the draft. Aside from the Cincinnati game, which they didn't win, he has been shooting horribly and turning the ball over. Extra minutes won't be the only thing he needs to display his "abundant" talent. He needs to regain his confidence, which won't happen, losing to the Depaul's and Cincinnati's of the world.
He'll get the opportunity to be a 15 minute per game contributer as a freshman.Joe, for Evans to come to 'Nova, he will want a guaranteed starting position and will want to play 30+ minutes a game. This guy is a one and done player, barring any injury, and he will want to play like one (25-30+ min, starting spot, plenty of shot, etc.).
Call it a sophomore slump, but Scottie has taken a step down this year. For him to go pro, he will need to put up around 25 a game for the rest of the season, which he wont do. Most likely Scottie will be back next year and possibly his senior year. He really needs to become a point guard if he wished to go pro because there aren't many 2 guards his size that succeed.
Tyreke "Too Easy" Evans is really looking at louisville and Memphis and Nova, those are his top three teams. He is really big about staying in Philadelphia and playing for a really good team. However, Evans has not ruled out UNC, I think he'll be watching what happens with Wayne Ellington and North Carolina; he might like stepping on for a season and being UNC's top player, playing alongside Ty Lawson and Marcus Ginyard and Deon Thompson, he will enjoy that. Memphis is too deep but if Douglas-Roberts and Rose leave there will be minutes, not alot but some. Nova gives him a great chance to sign and an atmosphere where he wont be pushed about the NBA.
His top two choices are Louisville and Memphis. My guess is that he's going with Calipari. I would love him to come to 'Nova, but I don't see it happnning. There are too many guards here and I'm sure that he's seeing that the minutes are being spread around to all of the guards. I really, really want him here though. Can you imagine what it would be like if he were here?!? We would be a top ten contender right away!
I just don't see renyolds goind pro this year. It would be a dumb move on his part unless he has an amazing second half of the season. IMO his stock has gone down this year due to erratic play. I would love Evans to come to Nova and still think it might be in the cards. Nova needs to snap out of this latest funk though. Drummond come on back!
With Terrance Williams and Earl Clark coming back for UofL and Sosa and Jerry Smith both being returning starters at the 1&2 there is no way he will start at UofL. We have Regie Delk(transfer from Miss St.) setting out this year and he is awsome. With Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas-roberts most likely gone for Memphis and World Wide Wes advising Evans it is almost a lock that he goes to Memphis. You know he will start for Calipari. Good luck to Nova on landing him. I would rather see him in the big East then dominating C-USA. How much could that help develope his game?????? He might have come to UofL if T-Will and Earl Clark went pro but he won't get 15 min a game with everyone coming back.
Memphis apparently did a better job "making room" for Evans. They have one, and probably two starters going to the NBA. Grant will probably transfer out of Nova but Reynolds apparently is coming back for his Junior year.
If Memphis is going to give him more minutes and will make him one of their go-to guys at the end of the game, you can't blame him for his decision. Also playing in weaker conference will make it easier for him to make the transition to the college game. By the time the NCAAs come around he'll be well adjusted.
Evans stated that he thinks the Memphis offensive scheme is better suited for him. I know you better have more than one go-to guy or defenses will scheme to stop one player. Reynolds scored 40 points in a game last year but not nearly that amount in any game this year. That is not because Reynolds is less talented this year but rather that last year defenses had to respect Nardi and Sumpter as well.
