Dustin two things. First off they deserve anything they get like a 3-9 sean or whatever it was (I'm just busting chops because I do like how they have a tough schedule outside of the service academies).

Secondly they are only the "biggest draw" in terms of a fan base. ND appeal stems from their religious ties more than anything else. Look at revenue and they are not in the top 5.

ND is 8th with 1 through 7 being tOSU, Texas, UVA, Mich, UF, UGA, Wisc in that order.

It's changing, Dustin.

ND isn't ever the lead story anymore when it comes to college football.  The rise of programs like Florida and LSU and the re-rising of Southern Cal...who market wise is a pretty giant heavyweight...to challenge teams like Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, etc means more teams are getting major exposure...the kind they weren't 20 years ago when ND was relevent more often.

Losing is a death knell to any team or program, no matter how popular you think they might be.  Would the NBA have been happier if the Celtics hadn't been gawd awful for nearly a decade?  Maybe, but was it backbreaking?  Nope.  If ND doesn't win, what is already becomming a dwindling fan base will just get weaker.  And many kids will trade immediate success over stories of Rudy, gold helmets, and the Gipper.  Nowadays, with college football routinely on 4-5 stations around the country every Saturday for a solid 8 some hours, every major program gets national TV time almost every single week.  ND isn't alone in that anymore.

Aside from maybe a game against Western Kentucky or some form of D-2 Carolina, I'm pretty sure I caught @ least part of every single Florida game last season.  As well as about 4-7 other teams.

Cant say I blame either ND or NBC for doing this it seems like a win-win situation.

2 Questions?

#1 What would cost NBC more the SEC contract or ND

#2 Which has higher national ratings? An average SEC game of the week or an Average ND home game. ( I said average not #3 Auburn vs # 8 UGA like a couple of seasons ago, or something like # 2 ND vs # 3 Mich)

If ND goes 10-2 they get an automatic bidMyth MythThat is correct, but they do get an automatic bid if they are in the top 8, and are more likely to get into a BCS bowl if they are ranked anywhere near the top 15, which happened two years ago when they got the bid to the Sugar against LSU.  They did not deserve that bid and it showed.

I know what you're saying Teddy but we all love CFB so I think our views are skewed.

I think for people who are not aware of CFB they probably have heard of ND more than any other school.
