No. I am one of the few last year who was not calling on Bostonites to run him out of town. Many players struggle in their first year on a new team, especially in a pressure packed place like Boston on a team as loved and scrutinized as the Red Sox. On top of those things, J.D. Drew had to deal with a very sick child in his personal life, which would be a nearly impossible thing to deal with without it affecting you in some way. With all of that, Drew had a very rough year, but played a major role in the Red Sox World Series run, with the highlight being his grand slam in Game 6 of the ALCS against Fausto Carmona.

I still believe that he is a streaky, injury prone, and slightly overrated/overpaid player, but he is still a better than average RFer and I expected both he and Julio Lugo to have improved years even if he didn't/doesn't quite live up to the contract he signed. When he gets on a hot streak (like now) you can see all of the talent on display that has made him such an enigma to scouts and analysts since he entered the league, and its fortunate for the Red Sox that this latest hot streak is coming with David Ortiz on the D.L.

Agreed on JD, however, as much as I want to see Lugo field his position (another error last night) and add some pop at the plate, I just don't see it.  The sox are stuck with a below average SS paying him 9 Mil. a year.  They just can't eat another SS salary ala Renteria.

hey wisky, I wasn't defending Lugo by any means; my words were all about Drew. I only mentioned Lugo because like Drew he underperformed and I expected him to improve this year, everything else was only specific to J.D. Lugo has improved, at least offensively, but he is certainly a below average defensive SS and an average one at best at the plate, he has to rank up there as one of Theo's biggest (and remarkably few) mistakes.

i will totally agree with yall on everything said about  Drew in this thred. He did go through alot with the kid and everything and that had to have a  big effect on his game.. . . . but he is a streaky hitter. i follow the atlanta Braves as  well and while he was in atllanta he was streaky but an above avg right fielder. he has his moments with the stick and i love watching him at the plate because he is very unpredictable . he makes th game fun though and he is really stepping up now that ortiz is out.

GO SOX!

well last season i was one of the people who was not happy with J.D. Drew mostly because i had never heard of him and we were giving him a 70 million dollar contract, and he had a pretty bad season and didn't do any better than fan favorite Trot Nixon.  But his postseason grand slam and the rest of the playoffs, he redeemed himself at least for me.  But Julio Lugo has yet to redeem himself and i don't think anything he can do will redeem him for me.
