Nashmeister: "And of course, Brocail and Valverde continue to quietly get the job done. I'm not sure where we'd be right now with Qualls and Lidge, but it certainly couldn't be much better than what we're doing now. The eighth and ninth seem almost guaranteed now. I just wish we still had Wheeler so Brocail wouldn't have to pitch every friggin' night. He's gonna be exhausted by the all-star break."
Well, Brocail wouldn't have to pitch every friggin' night if Geary wasn't injured right now, either.
But with Geary on the DL, Byrdak is stepping up and doing a great job.
But yeah, having Wheels as well, with Blum and Loretta taking turns instead of Ty being on this team... sure would be a bonus.
Watching our 9-6 deficit grow to 15-6 deficit, I'm finally ready to join you guys with the "let's get Bork outta the bullpen" movement now.
But more troubling still is that Wright seems to be trending down to join Borkers and Villareal in the basement.
There is a huge disparity between the 7-8-9 type guys in the bullpen right now... and the rest of 'em.
Sampson left the game with a 6-4 lead. This is... not good. But at least we'll get the 2-2 split of the series with the Phils. And I think with Cole Hamels vs. Sampson... most of us would be lying if we didn't say we expected the same. Still, with leads of 3-0, 5-3, and 6-4... this is disappoiting, because it's all defense (With a little help from all the calls going the Phils' way the past few innings from the 3-man umpiring crew).
