Thanks to Carlos Lee and Michael Bourn, along with help from Lance Berkman, Geoff Blum and Jose Valverde!

It's interesting to note that the Cubs have played the Pirates 9 times this season. They are 8-1 against them. And they are going BACK home to Chicago for another series. The Cubs have a losing record on the road. They have losing or tied records to every team in the Central, except for Pittsburgh.

Just though I'd share that with you all.

I know it's a little early for predictions and the offense will probably slump at some point, but I think a lot of people are going to be shocked when the Astros take the division.  The way I see it is that their starting pitching only has one place to go and this early in the season they are 6 games above .500.  Now if Michael Bourn gets hot, the team will be even more deadly.

Go Astros!

These guys are just playing great balanced team baseball right now. That's two wins in a row where Berkman was a combined 1-6. That's not gonna happen very often, but it's great to know guys like Lee are gonna pick up the slack when it does. Blum has swung a good bat lately too. I like the idea of platooning at third base. Hopefully even when Wigginton gets back, Coop will start Blum against righties.

But the real story of course, is Bourn. That was a great series for him against a statistically good starting pitching staff. Let's hope that's the start of something good for him instead of just a small streak. Patience with young guys certainly pays dividends. Now let's see if Towles can follow his example.

And of course, Brocail and Valverde continue to quietly get the job done. I'm not sure where we'd be right now with Qualls and Lidge, but it certainly couldn't be much better than what we're doing now. The eighth and ninth seem almost guaranteed now. I just wish we still had Wheeler so Brocail wouldn't have to pitch every friggin' night. He's gonna be exhausted by the all-star break.

Oh, and grats to Chacon on his first win. It was long overdue. Now let's get focused on the Phillies! They're hot coming in, but I have a feeling Roy-O is fixing to give us the start we've been waiting for tomorrow night. And I'll be waiting for Berkman's return with eager hands in the Crawford boxes. If he decides to put one over the train tracks though, I won't object.

Excellent series win ... The 'Stros did what they had to do ... never lost their composure ... kept their cool and went and played a full nine innings of baseball.  You cannot ask Bourn to do anything more that to continue to take good swings and cuts.  Lee picked up where Berkman left off and when you really think about it ... one the of those 3-4-5 hitters will be hot all the time.  It starteed with berkman and noe it looks like lee and tejada are starting to pick it up.

Well, Brocail wouldn't have to pitch every friggin' night if Geary wasn't injured right now, either.

But with Geary on the DL, Byrdak is stepping up and doing a great job.

But yeah, having Wheels as well, with Blum and Loretta taking turns instead of Ty being on this team... sure would be a bonus.

Watching our 9-6 deficit grow to 15-6 deficit, I'm finally ready to join you guys with the "let's get Bork outta the bullpen" movement now.

But more troubling still is that Wright seems to be trending down to join Borkers and Villareal in the basement.

There is a huge disparity between the 7-8-9 type guys in the bullpen right now... and the rest of 'em.

Sampson left the game with a 6-4 lead. This is... not good. But at least we'll get the 2-2 split of the series with the Phils. And I think with Cole Hamels vs. Sampson... most of us would be lying if we didn't say we expected the same. Still, with leads of 3-0, 5-3, and 6-4... this is disappoiting, because it's all defense (With a little help from all the calls going the Phils' way the past few innings from the 3-man umpiring crew).

Yea, certainly we shouldn't have expected to win a game when with that pitching match up. It was encouraging to see us continue to produce against ace pitchers though. Any team that goes into the playoffs relying on a lefty starter aught to be absolutely frightened of the Astros.

I'm beginning to think we aught to look to shore up the bullpen around the all-star break instead of trying to get a starting pitcher though. I think we can win enough games to make it to the post-season even if we have to rely on Moehler or Sampson every 5th day. And when we get to the playoffs, we may very well cut it down to a three-man rotation; four at the most. If that's the case, we're just going to need a reliable arm to pitch the 7th inning. I'm not so sure Geary will be that guy when he gets back from the DL.
