Which is the better game or more difficult?

  • I prefer snooker because dad liked it and the big 12' slate tables with small pockets make it the major leagues of the ball/cue and table games. You go from the snooker to other tables, and you find yourself making everyshot possible on the smaller tables.
  • I am not that good really. Don't play very often, sometimes a decade between games, so top runs tend to be in 20's and 30's have never run 50+ points.
  • Lots of reasons to pick the other games though!!!!!.

In Toronto, three are played. You get pool halls with snooker. Cash games in 9-Ball got popular and 8-ball is the biggest.. Snooker is number three likely (depends how popular 9-Ball remained), but 8-Ball is number one. Billiards and Snooker are more popular in Great Britain and Ireland, never see billiards in Toronto (very rare).

How about your city?

My first week or two  in Pueto Rico, I got dragged into an 8-Ball tourney. Was told my semi appearance had me a base rep already!  HA, got semi's in only two tourneys I entered, but restricted play mainly to conquistador where EX love to gambble..I's hang out at one of my 2 favorite bars in the resort or the pool room bar which was extremely hi-end/expensive.

I am just posting here to make sure the other poll does not rise above this one. We played these little league tourneys in Brampton. One guy had 2 daughters endowed to the tune of about 40" a pair. He called his bar Hootersville in their honor and the early 2's gals tended bar. Tall voluptuos gals thoses. But what a name by daddy!!!

I dared one to straddle my leg for a really tough shot. SHE BORE DOWN ..took her time and unfortunately made the shot!   I had no effect obviously!!!

I love snooker! Since I moved I haven't gone looking for a place with a table, though. Usually I play 14:1 continuous. My favorite with a few buddies is cutthroat, but you need a table that won't keep pocketed balls for that.

I've never played Billiards or Snooker so can't comment on them. I definitely prefer 9-ball (especially for gambling purposes) over 8-ball but like to play straight pool over both. Straight takes more time but is a better overall game in my opinion. You do need two players close in skill or the game will be one-sided. My dad smoked me times in the basement but I did win once in while.

What is the name of the game where you draw pills and shoot the balls in rotation with the object of knocking in your own ball? That's also a fun game.

Rabiddog88: I agree, 9-Ball is a fine money game, preferable to 8-ball. It got very popular in Toronto 10 years ago when the game took off.

When you said own ball, you meant the ball number that your selected pea (pill) called for? If so, that is Kelly pool (has different names).

If you meant sinking your own cue ball, that would have to be one of the many forms of billiards that is kind of old fashioned .. there are so many varieties I have no idea which one .. I have seen the red and white balls (just 2 or 3 or a few) several times, but never really played more than a few minutes.
