What do you guys think about LaMarr Woodley coming in this year and replacing Clark Haggans at OLB.  I loved this pick when the Steelers made it last year and it could turn out to be a steal if he has a great year.

StlC,

There is no doubt that Woodley will be an upgrade - Haggens was an average OLB at best - I'm just surprised this move was made in the middle of last season.  Woodley has the makings of a very good OLB from what we have seen in limited action.  We will see - but my thoughts - upgrade for sure.

Wood had as many sacks in his limited time as Haggans did in his full-time.  'Nuff said.

Our pass rush should be unstoppable.

dont get me wrong, i liked haggans an all, but you guys are right, woodley is pure beast...all of a sudden with him and Bruce Davis that weak pass rush is getting stronger

I was hoping to see more  of him last year.. but I didn't voice that... last Time I pushed for a young guy to take over a starters spot was last off season with Anthony Smith... SO I don't wanna jinx it..lol

I liked Clark haggens.  Thought he was a solid blue-chip player..... But Woodley looks (in his limited capacity last year) plays like a MONSTEROUS BEAST. I can't wait to see some of the crazy defensive schemes Dick Lebau comes up w/ this year!

I think Haggans was decent enough last year, but Woodley seemed to give the D a HUGE boost when he was in. So I personally think he will start this year and be there for quite some time.

This was my response to the Steeler BINGO thread -

I would like to see Woodley switch to #95 and Bruce Davis use #91 (Kevin Greene). Is it just me or does it appear that Steeler's are a couple of years away from transitioning to the 4-3 defense. Would love to see these two numbers rushing off the edge again.

The ability is there but "will we" transition to a defense that will better utilize thier abilities? Woodley and Davis (both converted linemen) are pass rushing linebacker. Couple that with Harrison and we are not that far away from a 4-3 defense. I'm not saying that's a bad thing (I will miss the 3-4 for sentimental reason's) but it does appear we are heading in that direction. The pass rushing DE/LB's are in place (and man they look good/potential) and I believe the secondary can hold it's own with some adjustments.

Question is, middle linebacker! Farrior is getting a little long in the tooth. Is Timmon's ready to step up? If the answer is yes (I think he's a year away) then let's spend this year as a transition/hybris year. I know that's scary (when we as Steeler fan's are always looking to win the Super Bowl every year) but we need to transition and spend a year adjusting/tweaking the package. It will be worth it and next year -
