The SEC leads in total number of NFL players and per team average, the ACC is second. The average per team is too low. The SEC is around 27-29 per team and ACC a couple less. This has been hashed over many times on other threads so we're all familiar with the stats. By the way the BT was third and Pac 10 fourth.

Actually, # of active NFL players per BCS conference team as per the NFL itself (1 DEC 07):

  • SEC:   21.3
  • Big 10:   20.6
  • ACC:   19.4
  • PAC:   18.1
  • Big 12:   13.9
  • Big East:   10.6

UK had 4 players drafted this year, Vanderbilt had 3, including a 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder.  Each had more players drafted than FLA, 2 this year.  They had more players drafted than CLEM. MO, S. FLA,  PSU, ILL, and HAW, just to name a few ranked teams from last year.

Vanderbilt had 4 or 5 sign free agent contracts as well.

CC was right.
How was CC right?  Indiana had a few players drafted this year too, and they suck.  Having a quick WR or a star QB doesn't make up for the other 21 players.

That's funny.  So far we have 4 different sets of #'s.

SECFAN - if CC was "right" on this statement, then the statement is meaningless because there isn't a BCS conference around that has team(s) with zero NFL players.

"We got season tix to Kentucky this year because they had a better home schedule---far better home schedule than Ohio State--at half the price."

So Bismarck,

Are you coming back to Commonwealth this year?

And do you visit Keeneland while you are here?

Yes, the OOC isn't great, but we had a great time last year. Good roadtrip, but we haven't hit Keeneland yet.

"SEC is solid in all sports. Men's and women's. PAC-10 is second. After that there is a big drop."

Wow, that's a worthless statement. Want to throw out any more extreme generalizations while you're at it?

Who really cares what the "best conference" is? It's fun to argue about it in the off-season and before bowl games but does it really matter? I think most of us would agree it is the SEC in football recently but what does that prove?

Get that burr out of your butt, would you?

I was pointing out that an OSU basketball fan would seem to be the LAST person to hang his conference comments, (of which I think ALL are suspect, especially the subject of this thread) and that is all. Kansas (who I picked to go all the way this year) is holding up the Big 12 nicely.

I don't know why I even bothered, but if I hurt your girlish feelings by taking a swipe at you, Poke, then I am truly sorry and I will go now and send you some flowers.

And enjoy your Kentucky native as your new coach. I think he will take you guys far. Certainly further than that Sutton bunch, which we learned about the hard way. Maybe there can be a OK State/UK series in the future. I sure hope so.

So taking the numbers from Devil_David -

SEC = 1.775 players per team

ACC - 1.616 players per team

Big 10 = 1.872 players per team

PAC 10 = 1.810 players per team

Big East = 1.324 players per team

B-12 = 1.158 players per team

And what does this prove - FIIK.

Just numbers - nothing more - nothing less.  There was a wise man who once said, Lies, Damn Lies and Stats.  I remember a song from the days of my youth, STATS = Bend Me Shape Me Anyway You Want Me, and yes the real name of the song was "Bend Me, Shape Me."

I have a favorite team and they happen to play in the SEC, I Roll Tide and haven't rolled for many years.

I enjoy Bama Ball above all else but still enjoy any great CFB matchup regardless of conference.

While all conference champs may not be equal (a different thread) I do agree to win a conference is the same.  Not all conferences are equal but the competition in your conference is, relatively speaking.

I wish they had spell check on this board, so forgive any typos.

Great Post BCS!!

I wish everyone here could learn to enjoy the game outside of their conference.

Oh i am. I always take it easy. I just had to point out the fact. Then the guy had to bring up Okie State. When in the past ten years O-State has been to a final four and Kentucky hasnt. So I just had to let him know. Im not saying O-State is better either. I just dont think SEC basketball is all that great. But thats my opinion.

I will say that without a doubt RIGHT NOW the SEC is the best conference from top to bottom, and really no one comes close. But I will also say these things go in cycles. Look back even to the 90s. It was all about the Big Ten and the Big 12, with the Pac 10 and SEC coming in in the 2nd tier.

Who knows what it will be like in 5 years. Hell, by then the Big East could find a way to be the best. But nothing takes away the fact that the SEC is the best right now.
