I say let him go, it's 1 more mediocre player on the North Side. The Cubs are a threat, so adding  a weak player may slow them down.

I was sad to see edmonds leave st louis but i dont think i could watch him play another season with us.  He is on the downside of a good career.  He range is greatly dimished and his bat speed slowed a lot.  The Cubs picking him up was a confusing move,   they pick someone who hasnt had a heathly season in how many years.  I dont see him staying with the cubs that long before he is released.  I could be wrong.

Jackie Robinson retired when he was traded to the Giants.  Rivalries really do not exist anymore in pro  sports.

This is hard for me too see also this guy was such a great player for the Cardinals for a long time, a class act. Hate too see him for the Cubs , any notice that he got booed when he left men on base , cubs fans are classless.

I'm still in a state of shock over this.  For the Padres to simply dump Edmonds a little more than a month into the season, when the guy had practically no spring training, and when you are going to pay him $6 million regardless, is a real head scratcher.

My guess is, Edmonds will resurface.  I think he can still help somebody in a part-time role.

First of all I am surprise that the Cubs added Edmonds considering they have a good all around team. Their outfield isn't asking for more players. The only thing I see here is the Cubs upper management is trying to piss off Cardinals fans.  However I am not mad. If Jim Edmonds starts when they are playing in St. Louis, I'll still be happy for him that he is still out there at this age. I also think if he is admitted to the Hall of Fame, he'll most likely be wearing a Cardinals Jersey in Cooperstown. I just keep the good memories of Jim Edmonds with the Cards as they are plenty of them.

Yeah it will be weird seeing him in a Cubs uni come 4th of July.  Anyone else remember the quarrel between him and Zambrano a couple of years ago after Edmonds launched one on him the Zambrano beaned him.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he'll be the next Cub to get in a dugout brawl with Zambrano.

I agree with you 100% but no ovation this is the Jimmy Edmonds that hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning game 5 against the Mets, the Jimmy Edmonds who made tons of amazing catching over his Cardinals career and your telling me that you will give him no ovation. I do agree with you that he is a cubbie but your not cheering for the cubbies your cheering for Jimmy Edmonds !!!

phhsbball32,

I believe the 11th inning homerun you're referring to was actually against the Astros, but good points nonetheleass.  For me personally, he was a great Cardinal and too much of an asset for too long to not cheer for him.

I imagine he'll probably get a good standing O on the 4th.  I'll be going to the game on the 5th, though, so I wonder what the reaction will be then.

when edmonds comes back to busch stadium in july, i honestly could see it going either way. he could get a standing ovation or he could be booed (or my guess is that it may be a combination of the 2). all i know is that if he gets a standing ovation he should do what So Taguchi did when he came back as a philly; he should strikeout at that at-bat and go sit down.
