I accidentally posted the thread above obviously to soon. But anyways I unlike gator fan have been an avid byu fan more all of my life. So knowing plaisted very well, I know that he is not ready for the NBA. He doesn't have a shot variation, and does play physical enough to contend with centers in the NBA. But because I'm a BYU fan I hope his career doesn't turn out like the last BYU basketball star who went to early.(Rafael Araujo)
i think he's making a mistake as well, at best he is a 2nd round pick. That means no guaranteed money. He'd be smarter to wait a year for a (slightly) thinner center class, while improving his own stock by becoming a more consistent presence. All that said I wish him luck and am hoping like hell that Cummard makes the right choice and returns
As a UNM fan I would like to thank Trent Plaisted for leaving for the NBA. He has killed us every time. But I would like to wish him good luck in the NBA and hope he can be a success.
It is unfortunate that this kid just played his last organized baskeball game of his career. he isn't good enough to play make a living playing basketball, let alone, play in the NBA. It's ashame these kids make these bad decisions. Obviously his parents are giving him any guidance. He is on no ones radar for scouting. he might get lucky and end up playing in India or Bulgaria and get paid a little, no highly unlikely. Just because you average 15 points a game and are 6'10" doesn't make you a lock to get paid professionally. Those numbers are inflated because of the lack of competitive competion he played. You will never hear this guys name again.
I have been a Lobo fan for the past 20 years and it wasn't Plaisted who ruined the Lobo's, it was the inept coaching against him. Plaisted is not NBA caliber talent. Let's get real here! He played against MWC talent. Not exactly the Big Ten, ACC, Big East wars we are accustomed to. The "big" problem for us is: can Alford figure out a good defence against the BYU's, Utah's and UNLV's before he takes a better paying job?
He is a good college center but I don't think he will get drafted. At the very best, someone might take a chance on him as a "project" due to his height and hoping they can make him an NBA player. As a fan of the MWC I do wish him luck in making the show though.
That said, as a San Diego St. fan I've got 2 words, Marcus Slaughter. Maybe Plaisted can join him in Turkey or Austria or wherever the heck he's playing these days.
He's no where near good enough for the NBA, heck he wasn't even the best player on his team. That said, I'm wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't the agent or a representive that got to him and told him how good he was and that he could make it. Wouldn't be the first time that's happened, I can think of a particular BYU QB that had that happen to him...
I am sorry...15+ and 9 in the WAC is nothing. I am a Duck fan. That is poorer than Maarty Luenan numbers and he plays in the Pac10; and he is never going to make it in the 1st round, let alone the 2nd. I don't know what this kid was thinking. I only clicked on the story because I was trying to think what BYU player would declare early.
