Wow, the Pirate organization must be down right stupid if this trade has any kind of truth to it. If the Mariners can pull this one off, then fantastic!
Bay has less power than Sexson, but we will get a LOT more RBIS and HITS out of him.The Snell for Batista is where I find it hard to believe.
Snell has potential, put him into Safeco, and we have a damn good 5th starter. Batista is just another expensive and worthless player on the Mariners.
If this trade does have any kind of truth to it then there must be more to it. Two worthless, expensive and aged players for two potentially good young players, it just doesn't make any sense.
Anyways, I really hope this is true. Otherwise it'll be a long and brutal season for us Mariner fans.

you do realize our garbage GM is the best GM that Seattle has ever had right? he is the only guy who has ever been able to bring in top free agent talent along with actually making trades, he hasnt piss any top talent away in a trade, Jones is good but Bedard is better..he has brought in every single thing the fans bitch and cry about wanting, he's called up the guys that everyone cries over he has done everything possible to get this team to win and the players just dont perform, thats the managers fault..Gillick was a horrible GM they had their window and he refused to make a trade that would put them over the top..and besides there still is a zero chance of that trade happening

Trades? as in plural? I must have been asleep to miss any other trade that would be considered successful other than the Badard trade. The thing about the whole Badard trade is that Bavasi pretty much had no choice thanks to Armstrong putting Bavasi's future in jeopardy. Look at the mess Bavasi made of the rotation prior to the trade. Signed Washburn, Weaver and that other god awful bum 2 seasons ago that didn't even make it past May. Then look at the trade he made to bring us Ramirez for Soreano. Then look at how much he had to pay Silva and Batista to come to Seattle. Wouldn't you think the prospect of pitching in Safeco to be enough to get some decent arms at a reasonable price? I will grant the fact that Armstrong didn't do Bavasi any favors by announcing that Bavasi's job was on the line, but that was only due to all the pathetic signings he already made up to that point.
So Bavasi pretty much had no choice but to make the move for Badard. It was a no brainer, but due to his past signings and Armstrong's big mouth, Bavasi gave up way too much to get Badard.
Also, if Brandon Morrow would have spent all of last season in the minors working on being a starter, then he may very well have been ready this season. Then the need for Badard would not have been so great and the Mariners would still have Adam Jones, George Sharroll, and Mickolio on the team.
So if you look at every move that Bavasi has ever made, then you would notice that all his moves were reactionary to his past blunders.
Oh and about that trade, it sounds like the kinda move that Bavasi usually ends up on the short end of the stick. So, this is a great move if he could pull it off, but it just doesn't make any sence for the Reds, which leads me to believe that its all just a bunch of meaningless talk.

he has made some bad trades granted but look at past GM's trades, Varitek and Lowe for Slocumb? Mike Hampton for Eric Anthony, Bill Swift, Shawn Estes and Mike Jackson for Kevin Mitchell, Omar for Fermin, Tino and Nelly for Russ Davis..the list goes on and on..Soriano had no value left on the team after JJ cemented the closer spot and Ramirez wasnt a bad pitcher in the past few years but yes it was a bad trade, and I just thank god they didnt sign Weaver to the contract they offered Zito...he paid Silva and Batista about market value, they overpaid but thats what you have to do if your a organization who is floundering...and as much as everyone loves Brandon Morrow, myself included who is to say he is going to be an answer or even a good starter, he showed in the pac-10 he was an average pitcher at best, Linecum was dominate and he has been great in the bigs I'm afraid Morrow is going to be average as well in the bigs, The Orioles trade I still say is a good one, Bedard is a pitcher you just dont get and the Mariners seem to screw up on developing, I hated losing Sherill but he was used horribly...he showed how good of a closer he is this year yes the Mariners used him for one batter, if they loved Morrow so much they shouldve kept him down and given the 8th inning job to Sherill not just lefties..I'm not saying Bavasi is a good GM but in my opinion he is still the best GM we have had, he inherited a horrible team that was full of aging veterans who had nothing left and a team that wasnt exactly an attractive draw for big name free agents so I think he has done a decent enough job and as I said its not the GM's role to scout so you cant blame that on him

I see no way Sexson/Batista for Snell/Bay happens.....it is so ridiculously one sided it has got to be B.S.......
Why would Pittsburgh move a power bat and young power pitcher for 2 guys in their 30's with big contracts. Other than the fact that Sexsons big contract would be up at the end of the season!

This would be a ridiculously lopsided trade. 1 old pitcher and declining slugger for a relatively young hitter who once looked like a perennial all-star and an extremely talented young pitcher. I could see Bay going, but don't know why they would move Snell.
