Dolphins waived/failed physical C/G Drew Mormino.Impact: Mormino still isn't 100 percent recovered from a shoulder injury that cost him all of his rookie year. He figures to clear waivers because of it.

Explains the interest in Newbury.  And that seems to be a good sign that they like Murphy.

I'm pretty surprised.

But then again, he's not a typical,Bill Parcells guard (6'3, 300).  Although considered versatile, he's definitely more suited for a center.

I always want to see what this kid was made out of.  He was supposed to be tough as nails with great weight room strength.  The question with Drew was, would that intensity and strength in the weight room carry over to an NFL field?  Apparently not in the Tuna's eyes.

With all that being said by you two great poster- I just wounder if maybe they let him go to later try and sign him again if he clears waivers and can later sign him to a cheaper contract than he was initally under.

There are reasons as to why Drew Mormino has underachived-- inuries being the most notable, but even if he does not seem like a Parcells guy, do you think maybe they try to bring him back and give him another chance

With him being a 6th rounder last year, I'm sure he received the league minimum in salary.  I could very well be wrong though.

I'd give him another chance. At least through training camp. If he doesn't pan out, then cut him.

I'd also say give him a 2nd chance, seeing as how he never really got a first one. But as you've heard, he's not a Parcells type guard. He's too small.

We're either going to sign a cap casualty to play right guard, or you'll see Murphy their for sure. But watch for a veteran guard to be signed later in the offseason. Kind of like Chris Liwienski last year. I'm sure Sparano and the rest of the staff have faith in Murphy's abilities, but i just don't see us going into the season with a rookie strating at right guard and another rookie backing him up. Do you?

This is exactly why I say to temper your expectations of guys like Murphy and Thomas.

At this time last year, we thought Drew Mormino was our LG of the future. These things don't always work out.

So yes, you're wrong. But your idea was right. He wasn't really all that expensive.

I have to admit that I wasn't suprised by this move.
