Sold and I would even throw in slugger for good measure!!
When was the last time we traded for a player during the year?
I believe it was Brian Anderson a few years back....

all we need is a solid bat in the middle of our lineup.

Man I hope they look to secure another bat........ that's really all this lineup needs.
Whatever happened to Ryan Shiely (i thkn thats how u spell it) that guy kinda fell off the map after getting hurt!!

I think you guys are forgetting how much Holliday is going to cost. He is going to be way more expensive than Guillen! Would I like to have him, of course! But it is going to take alot of money to get him to stay more than a year or two or however much is left on his contract.
That is the only reason why the Rockies are shopping him. He's going to want top money.

Holliday or Howard would both command somewhere in the 12-15M/year range. I just dont see the Royals pulling the trigger on something like that. Especially the way Meche is panning out at 11M/year, and Guillen is panning out 12M/year.
Sadly, the only superstars that will be doning powder blue, are the budding ones, who've yet to sign a big contract. I hope it changes soon. By the way, we way overpaid for Meche and Guillen, regardless of how they've been playing.

Well, yes, I guess you can say we overpaid, any player making an 8 figure salary should be a franchise player and neither of them are. Well, I guess they're OUR franchise players but Meche is really more of a good number 2 rather than ace and Guillen is more of the type of hitter you would like to have to supplement your best hitter. That being said, we could have done much worse. I'm glad we landed Meche instead of Zito last year. I'd rather have Guillen for what we paid him than what the Dodgers are getting out of Andruw Jones. We've improved the team with both signings though so we got what we sought. I'm more interested in locking up our best young homegrown talent soon. Hopefully within a year when can say we'll have Greinke, Gordon and Soria around for the next 5-8 years. Maybe by the end of the season we can entertain the same thoughts on Bannister and Butler. Signing these guys for long term contracts before arbitration would save us a ton. Its still a lot of money, but to me its a safer bet than spending about twice as much money signing a free agent from another team.

I'm not saying we should or will go after Howard or Holliday, but to say that 12-15 mill a year is too much money for the Royals is off base. Remember, Dayton told the media that they offered somewhere in the 12-15 mill range on a 2 year deal for Andruw Jones, and that was AFTER they had signed Guillen. Yes, we need to sign our other players like Greinke and Gordon, etc. but I think the Royals have more money than you think. Remember, the TV deal with Fox Sports is 33 mill a year by itself for the next 10 years, and that's straight revenue to David Glass. We didn't have near that kind of money last year, AND the past 2 years the Royals have under spent and actually have made 8-9 mill a year.
I honestly don't think you will see Glass go after a "big-boy" unless at the All-Star break it's looking like we are going to stay in contention. It would be nice to get a bopper, though, I agree with all of you on that!
