DISCLAIMER
This is my opinion. There might be some minor errors here and there, but I compiled this data at work in a hurry. I thought it would be an interesting topic for debate. There were difficult choices so feel free to disagree. I started with the 50's for my sanity and because I wanted to keep this in the modern era. "Elite" programs was completely subjective on my part. I tried to be fair and include the best among the BCS conferences. Enjoy.

Particularly difficult choices were choosing b/t the 60's and 70's for Bama's best decade. It was tough finding a worst decade for OSU, Tennessee, and USC. OU's best b/t 50's and 70's was tough as well as Nebraska's best b/t 70's and 90's.

Looks pretty good. Im just trying to figure out how Virginia Tech is an Elite program without ever winning a National Title. Other than that. The others look good.

Bear with me on this since Ole Miss is not an elite program. From the late 40's to the mid 60's they were a national power including a stretch from 1954-63 when they went 90-13-4 with six Sugar Bowl trips, two Cotton Bowls and a Gator Bowl. The 1959 team is considered one of the greatest SEC teams ever going 10-1,outscoring there opponets 350-21! One of the tds was the famous Billy Cannon Halloween night punt return to beat Ole Miss 7-3 in a game that ended with Ole Miss on the one yard line. The Rebels beat LSU in a Sugar Bowl rematch 21-0. They finished second in the nation. They finished unbeaten in 1960[10--0-1] and 1962[10-0]. Also in that stretch they outscored the opposition 2,672-628, an average of 25-6!!! I know it's not a true decade but it's Ole Miss. Let me have some dignity because we are all out of Mannings.

It seems downright blasphemous to say that Michigan's best decade was the 90s and that Ohio State is currently having its best decade considering the legendary coaches that they had decades ago.
I'm not surprised that it was difficult to find a worst decade for Tennessee. My Vols have been very consistent. Unfortunately, that has meant consistently being the second or third best team in the conference.

maestro... not so sure where you get your figures, but Georgia played in three consecutive Sugar Bowls.... 1981, 1982, 1983, for the seasons 1980, 1981, 1982, with the Cotton Bowl following the 1983 season(1984 CB).
