Its official, it had been talked about but Alex has been released to talk to other schools so he can move back closer to home due to family illness.
I hate he has to leave but respect his decision. I thought he could possibly take Deon's starting spot next season, or at least be a big time player.
Looks like things are going from bad to worse, we could go from preseason #1 to barely in the top 25 if the other three stay in the draft.

I hate to say it, but it opens up playing time for some of the young guys coming in to get some experience. Hate to see him go though. He was going to be a star for us.

Tarheels are going to struggle hard next year! I told you guys Stepheson was gone before the season started. I am surprised he stayed for the entire season last year. Roy better do a better job of promoting team next year or he will have other major departures. Since when did the Tarheels start playing to get a player the POY? Jordan didn't get that spotlight so why did Roy result to that strategy this year? Got us a final four blow out.

Ftball...why don't you take a 6-month sabattical or find some hobby that keeps you from these message boards...coming on here 2 months after the season ended and still reading your same horses*$#t theories is a real drag...just shut up about last season.
I mean this idea of yours (and it's only YOUR idea - nobody else has ever mentioned it) that Roy implemented a 5-month "strategy" to secure Hansbrough the POY award is absolutely ridiculous and shows how clueless you are...Tyler winning that award was never even a thought in Roy's mind the entire season.
For you to be this hard on Roy shows what an idiot you are...he's only been here 5 seasons and he already has a title...I don't give a ratsA$$ that he didn't recruit those players...he still had to coach 'em...I wonder how stupid you'd have sounded if these boards existed back in the '70's and '80's...I can hear you now...
Here's my impression of Ftball...back in the late '70's...
"I can't take this anymore!! Dean has had 15 or 16 years to win a title and he hasn't done it...he can't win the big one...when will the powers that be wake up and give him his walking papers?? How much more pain and suffering do the TarHeel faithful have to endure?? Why doesn't he focus on promoting team which, would lead to a championship instead of devising a strategy to get Phil Ford, or Walter Davis or Mitch Kupchak the POY award? Sure, he's gotten us to a few final 4's, but we always come up short. Dean better start doing a better job and win a championship soon or he could start losing the big-name recruits...as for the 5 trips to the Final 4 and the 7 ACC championships in the last 10 years, it's just not good enough...remember the words of me - Ftballgenius - if Carolina is ever to win a championship, Dean has to go!!"
You say you told us Stephenson was gone before the season started?? I don't remember...and you know what...who cares!!!

HeelsFan4Ever:
Great rant. I didn't even read what the ftballidiot wrote, but I figured it out pretty quickly.
It's really sad to see Alex go, and I agree that if he was going to stay he should take Deon's starting position. Alex is a great player and is fun to watch. We'll miss him a lot next season, but if Deon will grow a pair I don't think his absence will hurt us.
So best of luck, Alex. Oh-- does anyone know what is wrong with his father? All I've heard is that he's sick. Just wanted to know if it was something that can be cured.

Thanks Heel 81...can only take so much of his crapola.
At this point it's too early to tell what his leaving means to this team...Ginyard, Thompson and Hansbrough are back and it sounds like the incoming class will be able to contribute right away...hopefully Frasor is fully healed...so we're just waiting to see if the other 3 come back or make like Joe Forte and try to make a fast buck in the NBA.
Deon needs to step up...Alex was coming on...really could have had a breakout junior season...if Deon doesn't step up this season as a junior, he'll be losing playing time to a couple of freshman...how's he gonna like that?? Hopefully he'll smell the coffee.
And hopefully Ftballidiot finds and transfers to a message board where somebody buys into his horse$h!t theories.

HeelFan4Ever - that was a hilarious post, funny how hes yet to reply, or maybe comment under his second screen name DocSteven. The guy has serious problems... very sad, and I appreciate your defense of Roy and us "normal" Tar Heel fans.
Tarheels81 - I didn't read his post either, they are always extremely delusional.

Thanks Cane...maybe we've read the last delusional post from him?? We can only hope...
And how can/does anybody question Roy and his coaching philosophies?? Let's recap: 2008 - Final 4; 2007 - Elite 8; 2006 - after losing 7 members of championship team and not even expected to make the tournament, let alone compete for the ACC title, finish 2nd in the ACC and did make the tournament with 4 freshmen leading the way; 2005 - NCAA Championship; 2004 - 1st season back at Carolina...somebody please help finish this for me...I have to get back to work...but I think I've already proved my point.
