"Did I misunderstand your post?"

No, you didn't misunderstand it, you understood it wrong,
What I meant was someone to join Welker. Someone ELSE to join in the short/medium plays. To keep the other team up close until Brady can bomb one to Moss.

I guess I meant someone that could keep the defense on their toes. I mean, imagine trying to guard Wes Welker and someone else that is great at the short one.

Also, I may have been drunk when I typed that, I don't know .

P.S. FUTURAMA rocks! "All glory to the Hypno-toad!"

A possible scenario is that they sign Jones, but place him on the PUP list to start the season to get the knee in shape and make sure he's able to play. If he;''s ready, the Pats cuth the low man on the totem pole. Thing is, I like Eckel. He's one of those guys you want to see succeed.

Kevin Jones was one of the hardest working RB's I ever saw. Had he been able to stay healthy he could have been great. The bad news is injuries are real and the ones he has suffered are very serious. He's done, no matter what any bitter Lions fans or Millen haters may tell you.

I worry about Jones' injuries too, Swarm.  If the Pats sign him, I hope you're wrong about him being "done".  It would be nice to get him at the right price and see if he can make a comeback.  At this point, I think people are assuming the Pats will sign him.  I haven't heard anything other than the fact that he stopped by for a visit.  It's entirely possible that he signs elsewhere...

Here's an interesting outlook from ProFootballWeekly in their "The Way We Hear It" section:

Following a sterling end to his season, it appeared as though RB Laurence Maroney had finally earned the confidence of the Patriots’ coaches to be the featured bell cow in the backfield. Just days ago, though, New England hosted RB Kevin Jones on a visit to Foxborough, which we're told is a sign that coach Bill Belichick still doesn’t fully trust Maroney. Belichick was critical of Maroney’s toughness during the middle portions of the season, believing he took a gratuitously long time recovering from a groin ailment. The Patriots coveted Jones when he was coming out of Virginia Tech in 2004 and were poised to pick him at No. 32 before the Lions took him 30th. The question as to whether he’ll be signed will be dependent on whether he’s given the green light by New England’s medical staff. Jones was cut by Detroit because of concern over his torn anterior cruciate ligament, and if similar doubts are cast by the Pats’ doctors, then New England will forge ahead with a Maroney/Kevin Faulk/Sammy Morris RB trio.

Interesting post, DB.  I am trying to decide about Maroney for my Fantasy draft.  I don't trust him, either.  Hard to know what BB is thinking, but I agree that bringing in Kevin Johnson suggests some doubt.  I do, however, like Sammy Morris as a late round FF pick--he ran well last year till his freak injury.

"Interesting post, DB."

Aren't they all?

I had Sammy Morris last year in Fantasy and I loved him. He almost always gets at least one rushing TD, until, of course, he's injured. I like Maroney, but I don't think I'd spend lots for him in the draft, last year he went for cheap in my league, and with the injuries, didn't produce as hoped. I'll take my chances with some other guy.

I don't think this speaks of lack of confidence in Maroney. I think the Patriots lack confidence in Morris being able to stay healthy...when he went down last year, we really didn't have a third option.

I don't know any details of the injury, other than "chest", but maybe the Pats are cocerned that Morris may not return to form, or not be able to take the pounding...

patsfan:

I can shed some light on Morris's injury.  Belichick and the Pats are very secretive about injuries, but after the season it was disclosed.  He had a sternoclavicular separation.  The collar bone was separated from where it joins the breast bone.  No fracture.  A big lineman fell on him in just the wrong way.  It is kind of a "freak" injury.  It doesn't mean he is injury prone and should be no problem this year. I do not think it means he won't be able to take any more pounding than he would have otherwise.
