Look, this guy is amazing and someone to admire.  But, he is using artificial means to run against people using their own legs - this is not fair.  Maybe he can put bigger springs in them and compete in the high jump too!

A ridiculous ruling.

I agree. While I admire him for overcoming his disability, letting someone run with carbon fiber blades is hardly different from letting them use a bicycle. Good for him; bad for track & field.

HMMM I guess I'm confused also......  If he can run in the paraolympics why on earth is he competing with the regular athletes? This doesn't seem right at all.

Instead of a committe voting on it why not let the athletes running against him decide.....

It sounds unfair to me, too, but, when I see all the doping in all of "sports", so what.

I'm going to sue the NBA because I'm only 6'3" and White and they should make accomodations so I can play.

the reason they ruled this way is this:

were the paralympics, were sposed to accept the people who cant compete with the able-bodied and show that anyone can compete in athletics. how bad would it look if we told someone he cant compete?

I don't see what the big fuss is about, he hasn't even QUALIFIED for the olympics yet. I don't see him medaling in any event, so really the only person it could possibly hurt is another SA that would have his spot taken on a relay team by Pristorius.

Now, it is a slippery slope because undoubtably someone will eventually medal with a prosthesis. At that point we would have to consider the "Mechanical Advantage" that is gained by the prosthesis compared to the Biological Advantage of having two legs.

IMHO: i'm sure some balance could be reached, ie. Standardized Prosthetics based on Height, Weight, Muscle/Fat Ratio, VO2 max, etc....
