"SEC football" isn't a sport. "Football" is a sport. "SEC Football" is a conference that plays a sport.
When you put it that way, you make it sound like that at some point in time the SEC was not the greatest conference in the nation.
Which is correct. 2002 for example which had three Big Ten teams in the Top 9, and four in the Top 16, including the BCS Champion. I know it's hard to cope with, but some years they aren't the top conference. 2006, 2007, and most likely in 2008 they are.
