Take a good look at the 5 players SDSU has to replace at the end of the season. Its almost the whole starting team from a squad that went 20-13. They needed 2 quality pick-ups just to try to keep the talent at the same level. Right now, Fisher has accomplished keeping SDSU in the top 4 in the MWC, but still needs some additional players to improve. Player for player 1 thru 4, I'll take the rebels in '09, especially if Jasper comes. And, they have no answer at all for Hamga.

SORRY I DIDN'T MEAN TO YELL.....i'll tell you what, I haven't even yelled, I TYPED........Look man, I try to be as fair and honest as I can and yes, Thomas and Shelley are talented but we are on the radar to recruit about 6 or so top 150 recruits, not including jasper for '09. We definitely wil land some of these and our recruiting will only get better. Do you really think that you guys have a shot to win anytime soon? It's ok, I understand you are a SDSU fan but i'm sure that weed you got from those kids running that ring over there must have been good. Tip, you might want to lay off of it for a while. Clear your mind, know what I mean?

IMHO, SDSU can have em. UNLV didn't want to use two scholarships on a couple of guys who, to be honest, are lesser quality players than what UNLV has coming in. Face it, it's not like Pepperdine was all that good with them in the lineup last season. What makes anyone think that just because they are transferring they are suddenly going to be superstars. I'll take our guys any day.

Remember guys, this is a team that is celebrating the fact they had back to back 20 win seasons by going 20-13 last year. By our standards, that would be a disaster. They should make it 3 seasons in a row by getting 22-24 wins this year. Again, we would be disappointed with that. We'll have a higher win percentage, a higher RPI and a higher SOS and a higher ranking than SDSU once again this year. Whats new?

The bottom line is...Jasper has already proven that he is a WINNER at a very high level, not to mention he is a better fit into the program.
Thomas and Shelly have proven...that they can run a coach out of town, put up numbers while struggling to compete in the WCC, and hold one anothers hands as they look for a new destination to play. They may very well turn into great players for the SDSU program, just not for ours.

Hope we hear some news about Jasper soon. Nothing seemed to come out of the Wednesday meeting with Gillispie. Getting Jasper for '09 along with two additional schollies will keep the momentum rising. It would certainly have us in good shape with guards. I think we need a SF to back-up Mitchell in '09. But playing Santee & Lopez at PF and Mitchell & Shaw at the other will do if need be. Three guards has always worked for LK, too, as a change-up.

I read on another site from a guy that is pretty reliable that Gillespie never went to California and the meeting never took place yesterday. Apparently there was also an announcement on Kentucky radio yesterday where they pretty much said that he wasn't coming back. I've been looking for more info but only two or three people have actually posted about what they actually heard on the radio.

I'm reading various reports that Kentucky radio stations are reporting DJ is gone with an official annoucement possibly today. Hopefully this will end within a few days, with DJ declaring where he is heading.

What I'm hearing, c-hoop, is that Gillispie didn't make the California trip yet, and that it might be re-scheduled for sometime next week.
Whether Jasper is starting to have doubts about leaving, or whether Gillispie is absolutely going out of his way to try to convince Derrick to stay...whatever the case may be, it looks as though this saga will likely drag on for a couple more weeks.
Perhaps it would be wise to start taking a closer look at Stanback (the recent UCLA transfer).
