I know it doesnt really mean anything, but in the 1st rankings this year on ESPN, the Giants were #6. in my opinion, I thought that was a little low. I'm not gonna go off the deep end and say we should have been #1, but I figured at least top 5. these are the teams ranked ahead of us:
1. Patriots
2. Colts
3. Chargers
4. Cowboys
5. Jaguars
I would have put us at #4 personally. what do you guys think? are we ranked too low? are we ranked too high? thoughts??????

Saw this...my heart wants to put us #1..lol..but Ill refrain from doing that.
The only MAJOR problem I had with this was us behind the Jaguars...so at the very least..we have to be #5....(still cant understand everyones fascination with them..what have they ever done??)
Ill give the pats their due..they had a very nice season..that QB has a real future...they only lost one game..and they seem like an up and coming team..I would pat them on the head if I could for such an above average season...it shows real guts to run the table..only to get smacked in the mouth at the end..kudos...and because of Peyton...you gotta give it to the Colts...that being said...the critics are in love with the Chargers and Cowboys...strictly cause they look great ON PAPER!!
Ill grudgingly give the nod to the Chargers though cause they did give the Pats a run there at the end..and their offense does look sick if Rivers grows up..(LT, Gates, Chambers, Jackson etc) But screw the Cowboys...they dont deserve the benefit of the doubt after we took em down when it really matters. And until Romo proves he can take them there...we have to get the nod.
1. Pats
2. Colts
3. Chargers
4. Giants
5. Cowboys

I don't agree with the power rankings. The Giants have (on paper) improved since last season. My rankings would go like this:
1. Patriots
2. Giants
3. Cowboys
4. Chargers
5. Colts
6. Cleveland
Now, let's look at the original list. 4 of the top 5 are in the AFC with the exception of Dallas. This means we should be in the hunt for the Superbowl once again. Let everyone underestimate us again. Look what we did last season.

you could make an arguement for the Cowboys being ahead of us or behind us
but I would like to point out the top team has to be the pats in every1s mind
but we just beat them and looked good doing it ( nothing amazing but good) and we too got better and were usualy a great drafting team plus we didnt lose as much as any of these other teams
in theory shouldnt all that plus being the champs put us ahead of every1 ? Chargers and jags couldnt beat the pats but we did... boys couldnt stop us when it counted and we have a ring ..and its basicaly the same team from last year + more .. how do we not go into the season ranked #1 doesnt make sense to me
I can understand how the pats would get #1 and Colts #2 but really I think I made a good arguement

Maybe there is something wrong with my way of thinking. But if you win the Super Bowl, aren't you the number one team in Football????? Just my perspective!!!!!
1) NY Giants (SB winner)
2) Patriots (SB Runner up)
3) San Diego (AFC Conf. Finals)
4) Dallas (only because Favre plans to retire, I think)
5) Indianapolis Colts (they have P.Manning)
6) Jacksonville Jags
7) Cleveland Browns
8) Minnesota Vikings
9) Green Bay (#4 if Brett plays in 2008, everyone else slides down 1)
10) Pittsburgh Steelers

I'm not sure if the power ranking have anything to do with strength of schedule but if they do, I agree with the Patriots. Don't get me wrong, I hate everything about those guys but their consistantly good and have a weak schedule. That being said, the one team I just don't get is the Chargers. Rivers isn't nearly as good as his ego and take away Tomlinson and they're average at best, especially with Turner gone. I could be wrong and maybe it's just because I think Rivers is a moron but I just don't think they're that good. Same with the Jaguars, great, they win 10 games every year and get beat down in the playoffs. I would have gone:
Pats
G-Men
Colts
Cowboys
Jaguars
Chargers

You have to take into account changes that have occured on each team including the Giants. The Patriots have losses in there defensive backfield as well as at wide reciever. The Colts and Chargers have made minor changes and did not have any major impact from there draft. The Cowboys and Jaguars have some free agent losses but have made some significant free agent signings as well as improving themselves through the draft. Taking this into account. My top 6 are the following:
1. Colts
2. Chargers
3. Giants
4. Patriots
5. Cowboys
6. Jaguars

Bonz you're right. The Giants always seem to be better when expectations are low, ala SB champion this season when hardly anyone was predicting us to have a winning season and going 8-8 with a one and done in the playoffs when we were expected to be a good playoff team before the season started the season before. It seems like this is always the case with them (except the mid 90s when they lived up to their expectations of being bad). So let people doubt that they are for real, this is the fuel that the Giant machine runs on.

You are right, we probably wont win the division like last year. We'll get another wild card birth, like last year, beat a team like the Bucs again, beat the Cowgirls, then beat the Cheeseheads and then beat the Cheatriots! So, predict all you want, your team will lose!

Power to you BIG BLUE!! I agree with you 100%. Whether we win the NFC EAST or some wannabe team wins it, it almost academic. The NFC East will send multiple teams to the playoffs. Regardless, any team we play in postseason from the NFC East will be hard pressed to knock us out of the running! It just will not happen. Its wishful thinking. We will not be beaten by an NFC East team in the playoffs. Cowboys Fans, who've already penciled themselves in once more as the division winners might be in for rude awakening this year. Let me predict right here, you will not win the NFC East! There will be strife on your team and you'll lose at least 3 more games than you did last year. That all folks!!
PS: We should be in the top 3 power rankings.

They have ranked us low all the time, who cares. If we have another season like last year, I'll take it. The Giants have never gotten the respect they deserved at times, that just because they are cowboy and eagle fans on espn and fox. Just hope that they eat crow again this year. Mean while we have now won three supper bowls and that is some thing to brag about.

such disrespect...
im a Giants fan that can admit we're no #1 goin in to this season
but for us to be out of the top 5 i think is just crazy
we won the super bowl last year and in my opinion i think we've gotten better
reality, no lower than 4
