Florida Times Union stated:

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said of the talks with Spicer: “We’ll see where that goes. From our standpoint, we feel like we’ve made fair, legitimate proposals to both guys. One guy is happy with it, and the other is out waiting.”

I find it pretty ironic that any Jaguars DE would reject an offer to re-sign. They all had to feel like their jobs were in jeopardy this offseason. To get an offer from the team and reject it is idiotic, IMO. Paul Spicer can hit the road.

I heard on a local radio station this morning that Drew Rosenhause (sp) was his agent. I think he's turned down every first offer any of his clients have ever gotten just as a way of saying, "Stand back everyone, you're dealing with Drew Rosenhouse...Super Agent Extrodinaire. Now show me the money!!!" Knowing this, hopefully the Jags threw

Damn 'tab + space bar' routine again, sorry. That's what happens when I try to type instead of hen peck.
...threw him an offer just under (length or amount or both) what they wanted to give Paul Spicer so now they can come back with the amount they feel is right and he'll get signed pretty soon.

Spicer will get a deal done before camp. It won't be for elite money and he should temper any expectations. The team needs his veteran experience to mentor the younger players. 7-8 sacks won't get you a 15 sack contract.

Hahahaha. I didn't mean to sound so harsh. But we did come into this offseason needing to get better at DE. So I think it's ironic that a DE would be trying to get more money from the Jaguars.

Paul Spicer has been a cog in this teams Pass Rush for the last few year and has earned a new contract. But and there is always a but, he is in his 30's and is no the DE that he once was. With the new acquisitions of Derrick Harvey and Quentin

Sorry about that,
Quentin Groves will force Reggie Hayward and Paul Spicer to perform and Spicer knows that training camp he would be on the chopping block. He has been great for the Jags and I would hate to see him go, but Del Rio is not afraid to cut a player that has been outperformed by someone else.
Spicer may be holding out not for the money but the gaurentee that he does not get cut this year.

Paul Spicer was one of the teams captain last year. He's one of the vocal leaders on the team. This is nothing more than "cat and mouse" game in negotiations. The fact that they are renegotiationing for new contract is a hint they want hime around (ie mentor the young DE etc).
He'll be back in the fold soon.

I agree, but the Jags are not going to go out of there way to hold a player that is in his 30's.
Paul Spicer is an awsome player, but if he is after more money I do not think he is going to get it. I am thinking it is an extension so that he is not going to get cut during training camp.
With 8 DEs and maybe only 5 getting the ability to stay, Spicer has allot of hardwork to keep his job next year.
I do not want to see him gone, the Not For Long League makes it clear that if you are not performing to the level of others you are gone.

Spicer is in a tough spot here. The only bargaining chip is that we are built to win now. The reality is he's a slightly better than average 30+ DE. With 2 young guys waiting in the wing, it will be interesting to see who buckles here.

I think Spicer will buckle here first, accept a 2 year extension and play it out then retire.
He still has something left in the tank but this training camp will be the proving point to see if is worthy of a new contract.

To get an offer from the team and reject it is idiotic, IMO. Paul Spicer can hit the road. I don't exactly want him to hit the road, but I am somewhat in agreement. We need all the help at DE we can get, and he may have been our most productive one last season, but there is no reason ANY DE for the Jaguars should be holding out. It's not like the guy had 15 sacks last year. Accept your deal that you were lucky enough to get offered, and move on.

Paul Spicer had the best season of his entire career in 2007. I'm not sure what you're seeing, but if you mean that he's not the DE that he once was because he's improving on a yearly basis, then I agree. If you're trying to make the point that he's in decline, then you probably need to explain 2007 to me because I'm not seeing it.
