Hey Brul, I did not see the Fox broadcast, but to answer your question, I do believe the NFL's logic for destroying the tapes was just what you said, they did not want copies leaking out, so that others would use them/see them. Although I would think that signals change all the time and copies of tapes going back even a year would be pretty much useless, what with the way playbooks change and offensive + defensive coordinators come and go. But, in hindsight they may have thought they were doing the right thing at the time by destroying them. But with the untrusting society we now live in, it is hard to even figure out what the right thing is anymore. Had they not destroyed them, and some leaked out, they they would have been killed for not destroying them.
