I don’t post about the Patriots anymore because the entire pile of crap has become just way too much for me.  But with the recent Walsh tapes I have noticed a trend with a bunch of people are saying that the Patriots would be absolved by now if only the NFL had not destroyed the tapes. If they destored the tape it must be to hide something.
But here is my question:
Did anyone else see the tape footage aired by Fox in the second week of the 2007 season? I know I saw it & it was basically down, distance, field position & shots of the coaches. I remember seeing it & think big deal, you can get most of this from the game tape. I know understand it was far more detailed that.
My point of all this is why Goodell destroyed the tapes. It took Fox less than a week to get their hands on the Jet tape, so the commish should be concerned that the other tapes could possibly land in the media or at another teams locker room.
But no one ever mentions the real reason why he destroyed the tapes, per the NFL.
Did a lot of people see the footage on Fox? Was it too easy in the season & investigation, so people just were not paying attention? I am also wondering why Fox has not re-aired it. Do you think the NFL requested that they don’t? I would think the Jets & their fans would not want the tape aired. JMO.  What are you thoughts? BruL

BTW Please if you hate the Patriots, that fine but please don’t rip me. I am a long time poster who respects other teams & their fans, please do the same for me or just ignore me. Thank you, BruL

Unfortunately, you're missing the whole point. They received the same memo that every other team received prohibiting the taping that they were engaged in. They got caught and paid the price. Really no gray area at all. They cheated and got busted. Nothing will ever change that. Better to just not talk about it instead of trying to rationalize their behavior.

I'm guessing that Walsh has sold copies that will come out at a later date. I didnt see any rationalization from Bru's post. I think it was just a simple question. If Walsh was so honorable and forth comming he'd had his lawyer come out and say he wasnt the source for the Rams tape rumor back before the SuperBowl, not months later.

I think you are missing my whoe point.  I never said anything about  what is cheating.  I just want to know if other people saw the footage on Fox.  I am also wondering if anyone say a re-play or if they saw a you tube of it.
I certainly did not rationalize anything. BruL

Does this mean no else saw the Fox broadcast of the Jets tape?  Or is it people just don’t care to discuss any of this anymore.  I guess I am just surprised that so many poster claim the NFL had no reason to destroy the tapes except if they were trying to cover something up.
If your team was taped, would you want the tape leaked? Would it concern you that other team might use it? BruLs

Hey Brul, I did not see the Fox broadcast, but to answer your question, I do believe the NFL's logic for destroying the tapes was just what you said, they did not want copies leaking out, so that others would use them/see them. Although I would think that signals change all the time and copies of tapes going back even a year would be pretty much useless, what with the way playbooks change and offensive + defensive coordinators come and go. But, in hindsight they may have thought they were doing the right thing at the time by destroying them. But with the untrusting society we now live in, it is hard to even figure out what the right thing is anymore. Had they not destroyed them, and some leaked out, they they would have been killed for not destroying them.

Let me make this perfectly clear before reading my post……I am one of the top Indianapolis Colts posters on our message boards.  I hate the Patriots but I do respect them.  Now with that said, I think the whole NFL community should just let the whole video tape scandal go.  The Patriots were punished and nothing new has resurfaced.  They were caught stealing signals.  I would be naïve to believe no other NFL team has never done anything against the rules of the NFL.  These allegations happened last season.  This is a new season and I for one am just as tired as most NE fans hearing about old news.  It’s like hearing stories about Brittany Spears over and over again on ET.  Move on and get excited about your teams new upcoming season….(unless you’re a Dolphin’s Fan).  As for Patriot’s Fans…..I look forward to every Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots game year in and year out.  This year is no exception!  It is more exciting than the Superbowl in my opinion.  Sure I will make Patriots jokes but I am sure none of you will stop making jokes about the Colts.  Making jokes and trying to create something without evidence is two different things.  I feel for you NE Fans having to defend your team over this whole mess.  I am on your side when you tell people it is over and dealt with.  Good Luck Patriots with your upcoming season.  You guys had a great draft and made good deals as usual!

Thanks Coltsbquest for your very honest and thought out post. I like you agree. It is long over due time to move on, and like you I agree that every Colt/Patriot game is as good if not better than the super bowl. Here's to a great 2008 season. Thanks
