I have been watching Dan Cleary before and after the broken jaw and I think he made the wrong decision to go with the surgery. Since he has come back he has not been effective at all. The guy logs 20 minutes a night and gets time on the PP. Yet he has the same stats as Darren McCarty in the playoffs, who averages a quarter of the ice time. I loved the way he played before the broken jaw, but now he seems to shy away from the big hits along the boards and the physical play in front of the net. I know why he opted for the surgery, to come back for the playoffs. But damn, he lost all the spark that he had by doing it.

I can't believe he didn't put that shot in last night. Oh well. We've got to believe in him, he's been out forever so i'm sure he'll light it up again next season, maybe next series.

I think you are being a little unfair with Cleary. I've seen him starting to bang more this round and he has been an effective checking forward. There are also two big reasons for a drop in offensive production. That cage/mask/protector infringes on his vision when a puck is in his skates, like the one he missed last night. When he came back he was dropped to the 3rd line. Before the injury he was playing the 2nd line and Franzen was on the 3rd. He wasn't going to bump Franzen with his roll. The 3rd line is a checking line centered by Draper. Sorry, Draper is good player but is of no help when it comes to offensive stats. He plays on the 2nd powerplay unit which is currently shorthanded as Franzen normally centers that unit. Cleary is averaging 17 minutes of ice time not 20
Whether or not he had the surgery is a personal choice on his part that you shouldn't question. He was going to do what was best for his long-term health as he should. While he and everyone else would like him to have better stats give him a break. He came back to help the team. His jaw is not 100% healed yet, and let's see how you return after losing 30 lbs. while not able to eat.

I'm a huge Daniel Cleary fan, and I understand that it' hard to come back from that injury. He has been back since late March. But you still need to perform when you are logging that much ice time. He's on a scoring line now, not a checking line. If he's not effective, bump him down to the 4th line until he starts performing like he was earlier in the season, and get Darren Helm some extra ice time on the 3rd or second line since he's earned it. There is no shame in that. But as unfortunate as his accident was, ice time still has to be earned. Jiri Hudler also would deserve some extra ice time right now over Cleary.

I feel the same way. I want to see him scratched. The others are making more of a difference and can be seen delivering more hits and digging out more pucks. The Dan Cleary we saw last year generated more scoring chances than anyone except Datsyuk and Zetterberg, and missed 95% of them. Post-injury Cleary doesn't even generate the opportunity to blow the shots. He's waaaay to expensive now to go back to last year's Cleary or keep rolling with present Cleary, but scratching his slack butt for a couple of games might be enough to show him the return path to greatness.

The worst thing the Wings did was give this guy a contract extension, WHILE HE WAS INJURED. Come on Holland, THINK. Cleary looks tenative in the scrums and he hasn't lite that light, now has he? I always felt he was, maybe a B player, not a corner stone.
He needs to "Announce his Presence" tomorrow, cause it will be sometime before Franzan returns.

He blew it again today. I hate when the solution is so obvious and Babcock misses it like this. DAN CLEARY MUST BE SCRATCHED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS.
