We obviously know the big argument about UNLV having the conference tournament at home, but the changes that were made during this tournament SUCKED!!!! I was at the tournament and I can't believe the ruling which was made to not allow fans to rush the court. The result is more whining from other conference teams because of the persistant fans their storming of the court.
I agree with the the idea of moving the tournament to a neutral site, but it will not occur because of the lack of attendance and we all know that it's all about the money. MONEY TALKS!!!! The truth is that fans attend the tournament because it was in LAS VEGAS and the times that it hasn't been here the attendance has been horrible.
I'm personally tired of others schools (I will not name any names) complaining about the location, fans, and everything else because their school can't win outside of their home court (other than New Mexico). Secondly, if you switch the location to a court at a place other than the T&M we would still have the advantage, hence the whining will continue.
So, bottom line, switching the location will result in a drop in attendance but fairness in location. Will the conference suffer through a drop in revenue? I'm not so sure.

The tournament will be moved to a neutral location after this current contract is up. It will stay in Las Vegas but will be held at another venue. IMO

UNLV just gets better, that means two more tourney championships. That would mean of the 4 fours here in Vegas, UNLV won all four. After that, there is no way the T&M will be allowed to host it. Look for it to go to the Orleans Area, that's my guess.

I would think the Orleans doesn't fit nearly as many people as the T&M. Maybe somewhere in one of the casinos? The Mandalay bay convention center?

the Orleans is way to small. Mandalay is the best option but I heard that BYU did not want to compete in a casino? They are the only team that dosent stay in one during the tournament.

I believe basketball capacity at the Orleans is around 7,500. Too small. I'm hoping they go to work on a new arena that will be able to book the MWC Tourney for March '11, the first year after the contract runs out. They can build it in 2 years, and if they start before the end of this year it will be ready.
AEG is partnering with Harrahs for the arena on Koval. AEG is the world leader in design and management of major arenas. They operate Staples Center and other prominent venues. There is no doubt that it will be a top of the line arena, with all amenities. It also will be without a professional sports team. I'm sure they'll be willing to do a good deal for the MWC Tourney.
STILL, the whinners will continue! I've heard so many wierd suggestions about moving the tourney from school to school, or moving it to California. The WCC is moving their tourney from San Diego to Las Vegas, because they know they'll get a bigger turn out. Why would the MWC move to So. Cal if a league that is from California is moving their tourney to Las Vegas?
Could you imagine holding the tourney at CSU, with CSU having a year like they had this year? Their own fans wouldn't show up. And everyones going to rush to be in the Colorado high plains during March, right? If you're searching 100% fair, just as in life, you're not going to find it. The MWC needs to make a profit and not loose money on the tourney, thats a fact. If you're going to make it a success both financially and with fan attendance, a nuetral Las Vegas court is hands down the best option.

It doesn't matter where in Las Vegas the MWC tourney, as long as its in Las Vegas and the Rebels keep winning, the BYU and New Mexico fans will continue to whine.

Those fans whine because that is their nature. It really has nothing to do with where the tourney is played or who wins it. If their team loses, they will point a finger at whatever is easiest to blame: officiating, unfair venue, game time, amount of rest, etc. At this point, the venue is the easy target.
This is a common phenomenon among fans of mediocre teams that occasionally give reason for hope of a great season or run. BYU and UNM fall directly into that category. So does UNR. SDSU would also, but their fans seem to be a bit more realistic. Jazz and Suns fans are also whiners.

It's insane how conference opponents complain about the current situation of the MWC tournament. It's not our fault we live in by far the most exciting city in the conference and that the tournament draw is much bigger here. Where were the naysayers to relocate when the tournament was in Denver!!!??? Attendance was down and the conference wasn't making money. The move to Las Vegas did wonders to increase the turnstile numbers, increasing revenue for the conference, and created a much greater atmosphere than the dismal crowds up in Denver! BYU should be the last to complain about the tournament location. In the past two years they've shown that they can't win post season games on neutral courts whether they're in Lexington, Anaheim, or Vegas.
