Hey Percy, just in case my Missouri LB comment needs explanation, does the fact that Missouri has two of their LB's recovering from surgery on a torn ACL and a torn labrum, respectively, while one reserve quit the team as the other one was dismissed. Basically two starters recovering and hoping to be back in time while two other back ups are no longer there. Not major, but not a strength, IMHO. Jes' sayin'....

Nice list, nonetheless!

hahaha Clemson, a Clemson fan I know guaranteed to me that Clemson would win the NC.

Badgers , there is no bigger Tiger fan than I , and calling on Clemson to even make it to the big game is patently rediculous. I mean , we aren't very talented, have nobody coming back from last year and our upcoming schedule is murder.....Then there is that coach of ours....

On second thought...

Clemson will have a very good team next year, but I think it's ridiculous to guarantee that Clemson would win the National Title. I think they win the ACC, but that's it, they'll then probably play a mid-major in a BCS Bowl game, most likely BYU.

Also the "was"? You mean 5 months ago the team that won the BCS Championship? Oh that "past". In 2006 many thought LSU was one of the best at end of year and after losing 4 first rounders including the #1 OVERALL draft pick which was also a QB throwing a first year starter in his place, that 2007 might not deliver. But we were ranked high because of returning talent.
I like how you avoid referencing the "was" by referencing more "was".

But saying "was" like last year's team deserves NO recognition is a bit ridiculous. They didn't lose the entire team. Until they LOSE a game in 2008, they are the defending and undefeated BCS Champions.
No one is saying they don't deserve recognition.  Seriously, most of the guru's have them in the top 10.  I would say that is quite a bit of recognition considering several factors.  1) They are returning a lot of good players (+)  2) They do not have a clear, experienced QB at this point (-)  3) They have a good (insert great if it makes you feel better) coach with a good system (+)  4) They play in a very competitive (insert best if it makes you feel better) conference (-)  5) In late August, when all of this begins, all teams will be 0-0.  LSU will not be somehow be miraculously ahead because they won the NC last year.  This is not boxing.  You don't have to beat the king to be the king. (!)

As I said before, roy, I really enjoy your posts...I followed the crow thread despite not making any predictions myself...and I really respect the majority of the LSU posters and the majority of the SEC posters.  I think most of us have come to the understanding that there is an ebb and flow in college football.  One great team doesn't make a conference good nor do 10 mediocre teams make a conference good.  And without a doubt LSU is up right now.  However, being the "defending and undefeated BCS Champions" doesn't mean jack squat.

I humbly disagree. Why even play the game? Until they are "dethroned" they are the defending Champs. What do you think being the 2007 BCS Champs means to LSU and the players, fans and coaches? What do you think losing the 2007 BCS Championship means to the Buckeyes players, fans and coaches? Even right now. Don't you think WVU and MIZZ wish they were those "past" 2007 BCS Champions of 5 months ago? How come we still hear some gripping from KU, UGA and USC fans about their team not playing in that oh so long ago game? So it does mean something.

I think pre-season rankings are garbage anyway, always have. But they matter for the rest of the season if a team can't move up high enough because they started too low. Your assessment if fair enough, but the team has improved in almost every position by either talent or experience or a combo of both. Including Crazy Les hopefully not making games close that shouldn't be. The QB is the ONLY thing to worry about and we'll just see...

Now this we can agree on!  5+ for this alone...

What do you think losing the 2007 BCS Championship means to the Buckeyes players, fans and coaches?
It basically means they have improvements to make.  Making it to the BCS title game two years in a row should have no bearing on what their current ranking is.  In the same way, LSU shouldn't get a propped up ranking for what happened 5 months ago.

But they matter for the rest of the season if a team can't move up high enough because they started too low.
This is a great argument and unfortunate.  I call it the Auburn Directive.

I guess my point is that CFB and most sports predictions should be based on "What can you do for me tomorrow?"...not "What have you done for lately?"

By the way, I meant it doesn't mean jack squat this upcoming season.  Former BCS champs don't get a first round bye or bonus points toward the next season.  Of course, I would have loved to see the Bucks win.  But looking forward, it wouldn't and shouldn't have any bearing on the upcoming season.
