mph09 makes several good points I have to say that I tend to agree with him but I disagree on one thing for sure.  I actually think KU and MU BOTH would have beaten Ohio St and I think either would've had an outside shot at LSU.      Having said that neither has an argument that they deserved to be in the national title game because both had their chance and couldn't get it done.   There are major flaws in the college football system as we all know and one is that losing early is better than losing late but nonetheless it is what it is.

Heading into '09 I seriously consider MU a national title contender.   My expectations are slightly tempered for my boys but I think they will continue to play well and have a very good year.

To the KSU fan... I appreciate your post but I think the Wildcats will be pretty huge underdogs in Memorial Stadium this year but I guess the jury is still out on what kind of team K-State will be with all the JuCo guys and Freeman with another season under his belt.

The man has a good point, missouri beat colorado but then turned around and lost to OU twice. you got to win them when it counts. colorado was up for their game, it was homecoming and i guess they were really fired up. they did put it to OU.

Kansas was great last year but no way could they have tak'en LSU.

KState will not be as good as the talent there because they just flatout quit last year.  Ron Prince will be gone after this season and hopefully they will hire a coach who do similar things like Bill Snyder.  I want to see KU and KSU become a great rivalry because that helps out both schools.  As far as LSU goes, I don't think that either KU or MU could have beaten them.  Considering that LSU scored over 50 points on the Va Tech defense, I don't think either teams defense could slow down LSU.  In the next couple of years I think either KU or MU will play for a national title and the border war will determine that.  It's great to have the Big 12 north relevant again.

It's very difficult to understand how a team that didn't make it to a bowl game in 2006-2007 and then wins the Orange Bowl in 2007-2008 is going to somehow play for a National Championship in the next couple of years. Let's not forget, this wasn't Mangino's second season at the helm. His record is 37-36, and that's with only losing one game last year. It was a matter of "worst to first" almost and only time will tell if he can keep it going. Let's not forget, KU didn't play OU or Texas last year and they have to play them both this year. If MU or KU plays for the National Title in the next 10yrs, I'd be overwhelmed with disbelief. MU has yet to beat either of the South powerhouses and must complete an undefeated season in order to play for the NC. The bias to pick another one loss team ahead of them would be too great if they weren't undefeated. Hell,....they got left out of the BCS last year!!!
