Ok, Alren, we get it. You like football. Not only do you like football, but you don't like the Patriots. That's fine. Heck, I don't care if you think that the Patriots should be removed from the NFL. What I do care about is the fact that you're a representitive of the United States Government that seems to be far more concerned with Football than w/ unemployment, a possible recession, troops dying by the thousand, civilians by the tens of thousands and so forth.
Football is just a game. I understand you may like it and you may be upset with the events being labeled as "spygate," but you've been elected to serve the state of Pennsylvania not the NFL. Stop worrying about the NFL and start worrying about our nation.

What else do you want him to do... worry about unemployment, rising gas prices and the war? Spygate is much easier to deal with. Spector is a moron.

kidxxa,
So you don't care about what happened in football. That is your perrogative. I however do. I concur with a decision to have futhur review. Yes, it will cost money. Yet, it also will provide income to whomever is working on the case; members of the US workforce. So it isn't as wasted as you would presume. Also, just cause he looks at this incident doesn't mean he puts more value on it than others issues in the world. They are dealt with as well and certainly we spend far more money on those issues; as we should; and I'm sure if researched lots is wasted. So let's stop pretending that spending money on NFL procedures is somehow preventing handling other issues or is somehow regarded as more important.
In the beginning, I felt these meetings with Walsh would be nothing more than what Bill Belicheat admitted to already. Why was I so foolish? BB said that all the tapes were not reviewed during the current game. According to Walsh; the offensive player on the sidelines would get signals as to what is being called and that would be transmitted to the QB, during the same game. So the idea of changing signals from game to game; isn't a solution to this problem. It also proves the players were involved in the cheating. At least some of them including golden boy, Tom Brady. I guess now we knew how he knew the play before it happened. It also means that BB lied; yet again. Also, he apparently observed the taping of the Rams walkthrough. Another BB lie. The tapes may not show anything more than what was admitted to; but apparently Walsh's knowledge of the situation makes things more clear. Who do you want to believe? BB; the guy that has everything to lose. Or Walsh, a guy that has nothing to lose and little to nothing to gain cept satisfaction from a former employer. I think I'd go with the latter.
The Patriots should forfeit any SB won via cheating. Meaning, if they cheating to get position, taped walkthroughs, etc.... They should in fact be penalized; as any team would for cheating to win.
Want to know who I feel the worst for. The players that didn't know and the fans of the Patriots. Not all the fans, just the ones that truly care about the integrity of the game and are now fully ashamed of their team and their mgmt. I feel bad for football fans in general that care about the game and now see the Patriots as cheaters instead of a good group of hardworking teammates that defied odds. I feel bad for those folks who purchased Patriot gear and are now too ashamed to wear any of it.
There will always be fans like yourself who do not care about the integrity of the game. That prefers closure and money saving tactics over truth. That feels cause other issues are more important; any other less important issue shouldn't be addressed. I just hope you are not in the majority. Cause in this world, majority rules and truth should always be obtained.
For me, I blame BB for making a mockery out of the situation and forcing an investigation and waste of money and time that could be better spent cause he isn't man enough to take responsibility and tell the truth. This is the type of person you are supporting if you fail to find the truth. Blame Goodell for sweeping everything under the carpet to prevent embarrassment to the league. Guess what Goodell. It ain't getting better my friend. Maybe, just maybe, you don't have the guts required to do your job.

Here is a fact for all you football fans, if there is an investigation into this, every team will be under investigation, not only the Patriots, and there will be many more teams that will have some black marks on their faces when this is all said and done. I just laugh because no one ever brings up the fact that the Broncos were deferring money in order to keep Elway and the 97-98 Broncos together, In my opinion, that is worse because if they didnt cheat the cap system, some of those guys would have had to be released, talk about cheating

whoosh,
I understand where you're coming from. My point isn't that Patriots are great or terrible. My point is that I think that this is not a matter for the US Government.
As far as money spent becoming money earned, this money isn't going to people in need. It's not like we're bringing a troop home to run an investigation or pulling a sh*t-out-of-luck homeless person off the streets.
Digging deep into the NFL will not make our country better or serve to improve the well-being of its citizens. And those two things should be Arlen Specter's ultimate goals. Not a perfect National Football League.

Now for the really fun thoughts... Football is a game... the NFL supplies us with entertanment to watch this game. This game of football has rules. Rules were broken, punishment given. Remember, they are just rules... not laws that govern the state or society. There were no LAWS broken. Arlen is failing to understand this base principal. NFL has its governening people that review and apply punishments, its is not a body that is controlled by the government. Let the commisioner do his job, he reviewed the tapes, we got caught, we got punished, and if anything new evidence comes up , we will be punished further. The national problems do not include the NFL. Next thing you know they will start a judical commitee to see if instant reply violates the patriot act.
Its a game. Let it play.

Whoosh, please stop. You just spent all of your time writing a ridiculous post about the truth and making the Patriots pay for their cheating, but you don't realize, it's over. The facts are the Patriots cheated by taping signals of opposing coaches, both offensive and defensive. I'm a Patriots fan and am embarrassed by this because they clearly wanted to shove it in the face of the league by the blatancy of the cheating. They got fined and punished by the NFL, the league they answer to. They were fined a record $750,000 dollars and had to forfeight a first round draft pick, again, a completely unique punishment.
They did not commit any crime in the real world. This is not the same thing as steroids. There is no epidemic of children taping others signals in sports. There is no plausible reason why we should spend your hard earned tax money to find out why, at worst, the penalty a PRIVATE entity doled out to one of it's own PRIVATE entities wasn't harsh enough. There is no other evidence of anything worth bringing the NFL into a legal battle over illegal activities, there was no perjury and Goodell complied with the idiot Senators demands to speak with him and turn over all the new found tapes to the public.
Now, back to the real world. Over 6,235 US soldiers have died in Iraq. I'm not debating whether we should be there or not, but that's what Senators should be doing. At least, they should be thinking of how to handle the situation. We are in the middle of a recession that keeps getting worse, and unemployment is over 5%, which is a ludicrous level and has been ever since the Bush administration took over. Oil prices are crazy and oil companies are earning record profits off an average price of 120 dollars per barrel and $3.75 per gallon for you. There is no explainable reason for this price hike as oil reserves are not down by this dramatic of a percent, in fact, some argue if we even an "oil problem". 65% of the homes in New Orleans are still not rebuilt and our people are poorer now than they were 10, 20, 30 years ago compared to other countries. The US dollar is now worth less than the freaking Canadian dollar, as in 5% less, 1.05 / 1.
Worry about the real world, move on about Spygate, you sound like Senator McCarthy. Our country and it's people are suffering, sports are not that important.
