Absolutetly retarded that this is even an issue. As many of you guys mentioned already... K-Rod does it.Papelbon has done it for 3 years now (there is even a McFarlane action figure of Papelbon capturing  that exact -excessive celebration-pose!!!!) .

First off, in the NFL, they can do D dances, which are fine. I love Chad Johnson and Steve Smith (panthers) or Terrell Owens trying to out-do/think  eachother. I think it is all part of your tiket price when u pay $75 a ticket to sit in the upper-deckThey can spin the ball when they get a first down, or a WR can get up and pump his fist on a 10 yard slant for a first down, even if his team is lossing 44-0. Thats all fine an dandy.

What people need to do is get a freakin grip!  Do people complain when Tiger Woods fist pumps after every single win!?! Why dont they ban the covers of EA Sports Tiger Woods games, where he is fist pumping after a win? WHY? bc that would be retarded,, just like this conversation!

Also, lets factor is that fact that Joba Chamerlain is not a 45 year old veteran, with 20 years of MLB service under his belt. He is young player. Excuse him for caring about baseball. Excuse him for getting excited about it.  Maybe he should shrugg it all off.. but then he would be criticized as an "Eli Manning, lost puppy looking, pre-SuperBowl- type personality" , right?      Maybe this is why all the old-time baseball playeres, and people who complain like Goose Gossage play golf now.. bc that is more- their speed.   Oh, old shcool baseball stories.. like , oh how cool it was for Babe Ruth to point out his homerun! Not, to consider it showed up the opposing pitcher! ? ! give me and Joba Chamberlain a g*d damn break!    Maybe Michael Jordan should have been thrown out of the league when he celebrated hitting that jump shot over Craig Ehlo na d just went "nuts" ?   Yea, i dont think so.  What the hell is the difference?

People who complain abouit these things should excuse themselves from watchin g the games. Bc thats what sports are, .. games. Obviously u never made a diving catch or struck someone out to end an inning, so shut up.

There are hurricanes ripping through cities in our country down south, and erthquakes ripping apart a country in asia, and people are complaining about Joba Chamberlain stricking someone out, with a rare 100mph fastball, and gettign excited about it, durign a baseball game.   For those who see a problem with this, Go throw yourseves in a ditch, and do eveyone else a favor, will ya!

I agree with you and I mislike mr goosage's comments regarding joba, as much I admire him I have to say that the world have changed and so the sports...maybe 15 years ago pumping a fist or screaming when getting out of a jam or an out wasn't "ethical" but now it just adds more intensity to the game, fans shout when an out is made and so why cant pitchers shout and scream and get rid of all of that nerves and adrenaline??? sorrry mr goosage but you were wrong on this one...Time has change

This post is a breath of fresh air

I agree with you totally

I wish more of the other players on that Yankee team played with a little more emotion

oh how cool it was for Babe Ruth to point out his homerun! Not, to consider it showed up the opposing pitcher! ?

WOW

Great Example

but lets keep in mind Babe was a living legend.....No player would even try that today

and i saw the tape for that one and it was more blown up in the papers and made a story out of then what accually happened

Ruth pointed at the opposing teams dugout, no where near center.

Well, don't get me wrong, these guys are professionals and should act professional, but i think that really applies to doing bad things like getting into fights and doing stupid things. How can you get on somebody for celebrating a big out? It's not like Joba's running up to the batters and sticking it in their face, I could at least understand being upset about that. I mean, El Duque was much MUCH more animated, and if I'm correct so was Pascual Perez(I might be wrong on that, but I think I'm right.), but we never heard anyone complain about that. And I would never complain about it myself, I think it shows a little passion in a pitcher when he gets excited and pumps a fist, and we need some of that on this team right now. I would actually like to see Wang pump a fist every once in awhile too, I know he's our ace and been great all year, but I do worry about his passion sometimes. Sorry for the little side rant, but I think I'm done here.

Very well said debo. This is absolutely ridiculous that people actually complain about this. As I said before, this is only an issue because he plays for the New York Yankees. Hopefully all of the people that whine about this will read this and get a little grip on reality.

Keep up the good work Joba... and keep pumping your fist and doing whatever you want. If some of the other players on the team shared this enthusiam, maybe we wouldn't be under .500 right now.

Go Yankees!!!

completely agreed on all notes. i never saw goose play. i know he did play for other teams. i do know i respected  him for playing for the Yankees. now, i dont respect him, i dont like him, and i would say mean things about this old fart had he not played for the yankees.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with what joba did. who cares. hes a rookie and hes excited and it should pump up the rest of the players - as it does the fans.

people like goose are what gives the yankees a bad name. so people wouldnt do it in his day? guess what viagra goose ITS NOT YOUR DAY ANYMORE

Not that I think it's wrong that Joba does the fist pump, but two things work against him.

1) He's basically a rookie so the "Know your place" argument somewhat stands.

2) He pitches the 8th inning.  So he's a lot different than closers like K-Rod and Papelbon in that respect.
