Let's get something straight. Yes the tapes were destroyed after game 1, and they were under heavy scrutiny after that.
But you can't erase players memories, These athletes and coaches have memories of signals called from their opponents. This practice had been going on for what, 7 years or so? They didn't just start in one game for 2007, this method had been used for several years. The players and coaches might not have the tapes, but they did retain other useful information, without a doubt, whether it be paper documents or memories.
My question would be after week 1, how many teams changed their playmaking signals (I mean this is after training camp and the start of the season). How many teams actually changed their whole signal making scheme? I don't have an answer to that.
Now come 2008, it's all fair game, as most teams should have made adequate adjustments to their signals.
