I used to see what Osgood did all the time playing hockey in HS. Its part of the game, just like Turco's shots to the back of the head and sticks to the groin. Its just a fact of clearing the crease, and little stuff like that make the game what it is.
that said, whether it did damage or not, baseball swinging a stick at another player is cheap, and deserves a one game suspension for intent to injure.
As for Osgood's dive, maybe he did act or maybe he didn't, point is it drew greater attention to the play, again its part of the game
