If we can't say Bigby is a top 5 Safety because he has to prove himself over time, then I need to take LaRon Landry and Reggie Nelson off my top 5 list because they have only played one year and haven't proven anything. People dismiss Bigby because they don't really know about him. I promise you he hits just as hard as Ed Reed and just because and article says he is terrible in pass coverage doesn't mean he is. He WAS at the beginning of the season but then progressed into an all around safety, something Roy Williams never accomplished. All the people that are doubting Bigby haven't even watched a complete Packer game as of late. As for me, I try and watch everygame I can, outside of the Packers too. So I see these safety's play and I can tell you Bigby is not far behind. If Bigby was that terrible don't you think teams would have taken advantage of him when they played Green Bay.......Green Bay only lost to 2 teams (Bears (rivals), Cowboys)

In 2008
1. Bob Sanders - I'm just looking for the best combinations of teams and safeties in the league and this is the league's best safety on one of the top 3 teams in the league that is going to be better this year, barring injuries this man will be 2008's most dominant safety
2. Ed Reed - the Ravens are having a helluvan offseason learning from new coaches and new playbooks but this should really help Reed continue his strong leadership of the team and he will play lights out this year and be 2008's 2nd most dominant safety
3. Darren Sharper - the interception king will thrive again behind Jared Allen and on the league's best run defense, the Vikings have not been great in a while but this man continues to dominate all by himself and now with Allen, Madieu Williams, and Peterson he will be 2008's 3rd most dominant safety
4. Troy Polamalu - the Steelers offense is moving away from its conservative tradition and is evolving into one of the league's most explosive and this is going to help the whole team, the Steelers will have to go all out on the league's hardest schedule and we shall see exactly what Polamalu is capable of and that is being 2008's 4th most dominant safety
5. LaRon Landry - he immediately solidified himself as one of the league's best in his rookie year and should have been a part of the league's best safety tandem, with a more explosive offense to take pressure off the defense he will be 2008s 5th most dominant safety

If we can't say Bigby is a top 5 Safety because he has to prove himself over time, then I need to take LaRon Landry and Reggie Nelson off my top 5 list because they have only played one year and haven't proven anything. Are you trying to make a point by saying that or what? Have you ever even heard of Adrian Wilson, Kerry Rhodes, Brian Dawkins, O.J. Atogwe, or are you just such a homer that you actually think Bigby is better than all the named?
People dismiss Bigby because they don't really know about him.No, people dismiss guys like Wilson and Atogwe because they don't really know about them. If you think Bigby is underrated after reading all the posts in this thread that have him as a top 5 safety, then I wonder how you define "underrated".
I promise you he hits just as hard as Ed Reed and just because and article says he is terrible in pass coverage doesn't mean he is.Bigby is no Ed Reed, stop comparing the two. And you're right, just because an article says that Bigby is terrible in pass coverage doesn't mean he is, but the games tight ends put up against the Packers might suggest something about their safeties.
He WAS at the beginning of the season but then progressed into an all around safety, something Roy Williams never accomplished.Well he wasn't by Week 9, just ask Tony Gonzalez.
All the people that are doubting Bigby haven't even watched a complete Packer game as of late.Forget that my favorite team plays the Packers twice a year, and that my local market team plays them twice a year, or all the primetime games they get, I never watch a Packers game.
As for me, I try and watch everygame I can, outside of the Packers too. So I see these safety's play and I can tell you Bigby is not far behind. So you go from saying he is better than the tier of Rhodes/Wilson/Dawkins/etc. to "not far behind"?
If Bigby was that terrible don't you think teams would have taken advantage of him when they played Green Bay.......They did, they just threw to their tight ends.
Green Bay only lost to 2 teams (Bears (rivals), Cowboys)I guess you didn't watch the NFC Championship then.

Bigby is a good player, but not a top saftey. If he was one of the better ones, more teams would have went after him in FA. Even the Packers only gave him a 1 year deal to make sure he isnt a fluke

Bigby is a good player, just not top five. You could make an arguement for top ten maybe but he just hasen't had that one huge year that puts him in with the elite players at his position. He did have a good month when he was defensive player of the month. Then again there are 4 defensive players of the month in the regular season. Barrett Ruud was named defensive player of the month, does that make him a top 5 linebacker. NO. Todd Collins was named offensive player of the month, does that make him a top 5 QB. Hell No.

Yes right now I would take Atari Bigby over Brian Dawkins! Dawkins went through some injuries last year and he will never be the same. He is getting very old, I mean how is it ok to say Favre should retire because he is getting old but the same can't be said for Dawkins? Bigby is a top 5 safety in the NFL as of right now! As far as the tight ends, you have to be a complete idiot to think Bigby sucks because of tight ends like Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten, Antonio Gates. These guys are elite Tight ends and possible future hall of famers. Green Bay doesn't let "average" TE's have field days. Lets not forget that Nick Collins is also covering these TE's.

And how did LaRon Landry solidify himself as one of the league's top safeties? With all those interceptions and fumbles forced and how bout all those pass deflections?....right, he will have to do a little more then nothing to solidify himself according to your guys arguements

Dawkins didnt play well because he his offseason consisted of spending nearly all his time in a hospital. He had 2 premature twins and they had to undergo a number of operations during the year. That didnt leave him any time to prepare physically. He was barley in the gym and averaged 4 hours of sleep. Now he is back and fully focused on football and will be a top saftey, and not a one year wonder like Bigby.

Atari Bigby is NOT a top 5 safety and I am a Packer fan. He is very good but there are better safeties then him.

Please explain to me then how Brett Favre played his best game ever the day after his dad died. No excuses for Brian Dawkins other then he is getting old and will never be as dominate as he use to be

And I wouldn't be worried about Brian Dawkins so much if i were you, you need to worry about McNabb cause if he can't stay healthy you guys won't be in the playoffs. You guys want to borrow one of our 5 WR's ? Cause you don't have 1 decent receiver

I'll put my account on the line that by the end of the 2008 season, Atari Bigby will be considered a top tier safety
