ROGERS RESURFACING IN CANADA?

Posted by Mike Florio on May 9, 2008, 1:39 p.m.

Receiver Charles Rogers, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 draft, is reportedly close to a deal with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.

“I would say there’s about an 80-20 chance of him being at training camp, coming in and competing for a job,” Montreal G.M. Jim Popp (unfortunate typo narrowly averted) said Thursday.

“It’s not completed yet, but he can come in as a CFL rookie and we’ll make an assessment of him, where he’s at in his career and his life.”

Receiver David Boston, a one-time top-ten NFL draft pick, recently signed with the Toronto Argonauts. (A prior version of this article had him playing with the Alouettes, too. Sorry for the blunder.)

Rogers was cut by the Lions in 2006. A grievance is still pending between the Lions and Rogers regarding millions of dollars in bonus money that the Lions claim they’re entitled to recover based on a four-game suspension imposed on Rogers for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.

Other former NFL first-rounders whose careers brought them to Canada include Akili Smith, Lawrence Phillips, and Ricky Williams.

KOREN TO BE CUT?

Posted by Mike Florio on May 9, 2008, 2:37 p.m.

A league source tells us that the Green Bay Packers are planning to release receiver Koren Robinson. The move could come as soon as today.

Per the source, the Packers hope to go younger at the position. They recently added Jordy Nelson in the 2008 draft, and the roster already features young players like Greg Jennings and James Jones.

Per the source, the team initially gave Robinson an opportunity to line up a trade, but other teams apparently have opted to wait for him to be cut.

Robinson is signed through 2008, at a base salary of $730,000.

Charles Rogers hasn't signed with the CFL yet. He's close, but as of right this minute, he's still available. Like Josh McCown, Mike Williams & Kalimba Edwards, he was labeled a bust in Detroit. He's a former 1st round pick, much like William Joseph.

Koren Robinson is a good return man and the Raiders need one. He made the pro bowl as a Vikings returner. The Packers wanted him, but not Randy Moss. What does that tell you? He used to have a drinking problem and the Raiders are known for giving a chance to disgruntled players (Javon Walker, DeAngelo Hall)..

What does Raider Nation think? I know tenney loves this thread already. Come on guys, we've had a thread about Cedric Benson & Adam Archuleta. why not these guys?

Never mind. Beat me to the post.

I wouldn't mind trading for Robertson at 730,00 for the year. Or signing one of these guys to the league min.or give them a camp spot to try out.  Couldn't hurt to look.

I would rather have Al Davis on the roster as a WR for 4 million a year than either of these guys for 2 bucks.

Davis could use that walker to push the corner off the line but when he gets the ball they will be picking up pieces of him all over the field.

Packers informed WR Koren Robinson of his release.
Robinson was initially permitted to seek a trade, but he found no takers because everyone knew he'd be cut after the Packers drafted Jordy Nelson. Robinson played in nine games last season, hauling in 21 passes for 241 yards (11.5 YPC) and a TD. He's been a potent kick returner in the league. Despite Robinson's off-field history, he should be on Kansas City's wish list.

Id rather have Boston than Robinson. I still wouldnt doubt Tampa Bay losing patience with Mike Clayton. I expect him to be cut or moved and I would take a flyer on him as well.

Coming from a Packer fan, Koren Robinson still has some football left in him. I'm kinda mad that we cut him because he didn't have to much time to prove himself. In the little playing time he got he looked good. He was a pretty good kick returner for us last year.
