The facts about what happened will no doubt be disputed for some time, and it probably doesn't make much difference in terms of the Bears winning and losing.
I'm not a Cedric Benson fan but I think it makes more sense to keep him around (unless he's physically less than 100%) to run in tandem with Matt Forte. The competition will make Benson better and not having to carry the load by himself as a rookie will make Forte better. Plus the offensive line should be improved to the point where whoever runs should average more than 3.4 yards.
I like Adrian Peterson but I think last year showed he's at his best as a 3rd-down back and a special teamer. Garrett Wolfe doesn't seem capable of being much more than a 3rd-down back. So if Benson goes, we've still got holes to fill.
Don't forget that his MOTHER was on the boat with him. I seriously doubt that he would have done anything foolish (drunk or not) in the presence of his mother.
From what I have heard from witnesses, the LCRA officer took Benson away in his boat to administer the sobriety test - away from the other passengers on Benson's boat. I'm not sure of proper protocol in these types of events, but I would think that an officer would want to give Benson the sobriety test in plain view of the other passengers on Benson's boat, just to make sure that they see that he's doing everything by the book. By going to a spot where the other witnesses could not see the officer give the sobriety test, it puts doubt into people's heads whether the officer is following protocol or not.
It will be interesting to see how this case develops. This is going to be going to a courtroom...with Benson facing charges, or Benson suing the LCRA.

That in their lies the problem for me....
If Benson was taken away out of plain view from the (15) passengers on his own boat how in the H$LL could they possibly know for a fact that Benson did NOT in fact resist arrest or Benson did not become combative or abusive to the Officer to the point that the Officer feared for his own safety enough to pepper spray Benson to subdo him ?????
I mean, if they couldn't see it clearly, how do they know what really happened other then basing their own testimony on what they feel because they are Cedrics freinds and family ????
Even if Ced is innocent from all of this, it won't help his sucktitiude (lol, new word :P) on the field. He's better than nothing though, so I'm not ready to axe him yet.
I asked my friend who is Latino here at NIU the same thing and he laughed saying it's because mexicans don't like water, unless it involves crossing Rio Grande(which can be waded across apparently.)
Now if that's the case or not, I dunno, but I laughed when he said it.
Funny thing about how companies or pollsters take into counting "races"(what are we racing for anyway!?) Hispanics/latinos are sometimes given their own box to check once in awhile, most the time they are given their own. A friend of mine is Arab and the police dept. said he had to check caucasion because no arab box existed.. Native Americans count towards roughly 1% of the pop. count, so 1.8% even in texas seems alittle high to me. Yes I've been to texas 5 times in my life, the trail of tears lead to OK, and by the time indigenous word reached the west not to trust the immigrants of the 19th century they knew to fight for what they had.
The revolution was won with the help of the Oneida indians(ong-we-hone) dig deep my sources are many, ie. Treaty of Canadaigua. fast forward. After the civil war this country had alot of 'military men' that we're absorbed with all their "tenacity and war minds" intacdt and you had "good soldiers" to fight what was the indian wars of the 1880's.
That's my partial history lesson, mostly off subject, for a day.
