The ignorance and sexism that I've seen in some of these posts concerning this story is just inexcusable and downright deplorable. To those of you that make such posts, I hope they make you feel more like men, because I see this as overcompensating for some personal shortcoming or just plain bitterness because a woman is actually making it in a man's sport. We're not in the Dark Ages anymore. I am all for free speech, having served my country in the world's greatest Navy for the last 17 1/2 years to defend that concept, among others, but some people like to twist and perverse that freedom to take cheap shots at athletes who are in unfortunate situations that aren't necessarily their fault, which is pretty low IMHO.
As far as the incident is concerned, Patrick wasn't at fault here. Seems to me that this crewmember got a little too complacent with where he was at and wasn't paying attention to the fact that there was a vehichle weighing a ton plus and moving at a good rate of speed coming towards him. This comes down to good old fashion common sense, which seemed to temporarily disappear from this crewmember's mind, resulting in said accident.
Making it haha are you kidding me she has been racing 4 years and won 1 stupied race in japan where 3 of the top drivers where not even in the race. I would say she is very far from making it if she was ugly she would have been already gone from the sport but they are trying to use her to get new fans.
I have nothing against women in ALL sports, hell if the Dallas Cowboys can find a woman CB that can cover and tackle I say cut Pacman Jones!!!
The thing I will say about Danica Patrick (whom I love) is that if it were a less attractive woman that took 50 something tries to get her first win...she would have faded away or been pushed out of the sport. The fact, is "Sexy-ism" is a part of what has helped launch her into the sport. The incident was an accident and unfortunately won't be the last time a pit member is involved in an accident of some nature probably involving a dude. In the mean time, I am a luke warm fan of the sport ONLY BECAUSE OF DANICA PATRICK. I guess it is part of my SEXY-ISM as a man :)
In defense of Danica and her ability for all of you put there claiming she only has a ride because she's sexy, look at a couple of her piers.
Danica has 51 starts with 1 win and 29 top tens.
Marco Andretti "the anointed" has 35 starts with 1 win and 15 top tens.
Patrick Carpenter "typical average driver" has 69 starts with no wins and 17 top tens.
Patrick Carpenter hasn't even lucked into a win in 69 races. Well maybe it is because you have to be competitive and in postion to get a win. Marco is the hot young driver and he has only managed one win in the same level equipment Danica now drives. There is a great deal to be said for those 29 top tens. She is not Kanaan or Castroneves, but there are only 4 or 5 great drivers at any level. She certainly is not a joke. I'm sure Carpenter would love to trade career records at this point along with several others.
This is the reason why we will never have a female president in this country. Men are too sexist and disrespectful toward women, period. I am a 17-year-old MALE high school student who has a lot of respect for my opposite sex. Just because Danica has ONE accident that isn't her fault doesn't mean she and all other women are bad drivers. I bet if Tony Stewart or Jimmy Johnson had been involved in something like this, there would be no criticism whatsoever about their driving. Men are just looking for another reason to criticize women because they are looked upon as unimportant and that is wrong. I think women are just as good, if not better, at driving as men and I'm not afraid to admit that. I consider myself a fan of Danica eve though I don't watch auto racing, and I think she is doing better than Michelle Wie to this point.
wolf i understand how you can get upset and agree with you, but you need to relax a little, the point that she is very attractive is a valid one though, an average looking woman would not get the same concern, indy plays her looks into marketing beacause they need to, i say good for her too, if it helps her great
as far as the other comment about top 10's, in indy the past 5 years that is no great achievment, most races have had 18 drivers, top 5's are a better acheivment
