I don't think they'll redshirt Massamba this year.  Depending on the year Hamga has, as well as any commitment Kruger can get from him to stay till his junior year, I could see Massamba redshirting his sophmore year.  Just looking back the past few years at redshirt bigs, and what coach was able to do with Amundson and Anthony was tremendous.

That would be crazy to redshirt Massamba.  I think he'll get about 15 minutes a game.  Without him, if Hamga fouls out or gets hurt, it'll be this season all over again.

Elmore Spencer was a 7 footer and Keon Clark was 6'11" hunched over. Spencer was pretty bad, but Keon gave us some good years, at least when he wasn't smoking weed.

There's no doubt that Hamga can make his name for himself as the best center in UNLV history. The best thing he can learn right now is the kick out pass, especially when double teamed.  If he can do that, play defense, catch a few lobs and get some put backs, he can be a huge factor.

From Hamga, I'd like to see a similiar style of play as to Kevin Garnett.  Wouldn't that be awesome his freshman year?  Now that's hoping!

If he can take it to the hole and just dunk hard, and play some agressive d-fence, that's all I want.  Just a down low presence that needs some double time attention from other teams.  That would really set up our awesome guard play.  I get excited just thinking about it!

Spencer was pretty bad

Elmore was kinda slow and lumbering, but he was also pretty skilled for a big man.  I remember him more than holding his own against Shaq when LSU visited the Thomas & Mack back in 91-92.

He was drafted late in the 1st round in the NBA draft in 1992.  Unfortunately, he never amounted to much of an NBA player...I think he played 2-3 seasons with the Clippers.

Elmore Spencer was actually pretty good. He had some trouble with depression if I remember correctly. He was a nice guy, him and JR Rider had the last Tark team playing some good b-ball. They were the team that could not go to the tourney, it was the exchange with NCAA to let us have the chance to defend our title.

Ok, Spencer wasn't bad, but he was a little disappointing. He was a big body with a decent skill set, but he didn't fit our style of play at the time. True, he was drafted to the NBA, because he was 7 foot tall from a good program, but he didn't last very long for a reason.

dcut,

Your right Spencer didn't last very long, but it was not because of his skills. He actually had a battle for his life with manic depression, he truly went off the deep end. I have not heard anything about him in a while, but he was a really nice person on campus and worked hard to try and fit in. The big lefty was very slow but he did work hard, he was the kinda player that would fit in well with the current team.

dcut,

I was not trying to discredit or disagree with anyone on him, I just had a couple of classes with big elmore and he was such a nice guy. He was this big shy giant, it almost seemed like he felt guilty for being a BMOC. I truly hope he is doing ok.

No disrespect to the guy as a person. I have no doubt that he was a nice guy as you say. I just remember having some decently high hopes for the guy because of his size and general ability, but he wasn't as much as a factor as I hoped. I wish him well wherever he is today.
