I am somewhat disappointed to see Rivers go. He was a decent defender (except in the Davidson game), and had good attitude, effort, etc. But with the talent that is coming in, and the existing talent, I have a hard time seeing his minutes doing anything but dropping. So I think he may have made the right call. But I think the team will be fine without him. Sapp, a healthy Chris Wright and incoming Clark will be just fine for us, and will provide more scoring. So thanks for all the effort, Jeremiah. Sad to see you go. I hope you land somewhere where you can start and excel.

Is it just me or has there been a very large amount of players transferring from big-name schools this year?

I agree that it is sad to see him go but he will not be missed very much.

"he was a decent defender except in the davidson game"

bruce bowen, ben wallace, and chuck norris could have triple teamed curry and i'm pretty sure that kid was gonna go off regardless.

I'm trying to figure out why everyone thinks Gtown will be spectacular next year.  I don't care who they have coming in, they lost almost 50% of their offense from a year ago.

I understand Monroe will be a gifted Freshman, but seems to me that Gtown will have to overachieve to be in the top tier of the Big East.

Looks like a rebuilding year

It's very hard to make up for 50% of an offense.

chuck norris clearly would have shut down curry...one simple roundhouse kick in the skull would have done the trick  8-)

Rivers was a "decent" player, period, who was probably in over his head at Georgetown.  Frankly, I was surprised to even see him on the roster for the past two years, and I think his 2.5 ppg bears that out.  The writing was on the wall when he couldn't take advantage of the absence of an injured Chris Wright, or disappearing senior Jonathan Wallace.  Probably should have gone the mid-major route, though the way he played D against Davidson and Curry makes me wonder.  Despite being Doc Rivers' son, it probably wasn't in the cards - or the genes - for him to play high-major ball.  Guess the allure of a Georgetown education wasn't enough to make him stay (at least Wallace is going to law school next year, since he was accepted @ G'Town Law).

fishman6581 - your spelling isn't real good either.  Nor is your grammar.  Rivers was a role player with Georgetown.  His job was to play defense.  He did a pretty good job of it too.  I suppose you and your friend had a good time making fun of him though... that's cool.

haha oh wow man my grammer wasnt bad and niether was my spelling?

Well, sir, I suppose I apologize for my incorrect grammer and spelling. And if his job was to play defense on the opposing teams point guard and your saying he usually did a good job of it then I guess Derrick Rose was just way to good for him

The Big East will be strong next year, and Georgetown will have trouble being at the top of the conference for sure. Pittsburgh is very talented and will return most of its best players, especially DaJuan Blair. Connecticut gets back Hasheem Thabeet and hopefully, a healthy A.J. Price. Louisville will still be strong with Edgar Sosa, Jerry Smith, Andre McGee and Earl Clark. Villanova will still have Scottie Reynolds and both Coreys. Notre Dame will still have Luke Harangody. Georgetown will still be talented with Jessie Sapp (read SI.com for their projections for him) and DaJuan Summers (already projected as a draft pick in the 2009 draft when he will be a junior next year) and the high hopes for Chris Braswell, Henry Sims, and Greg Monroe.

Jeremiah Rivers and Vernon Macklin saw the writing on the wall. They wanted to start. Macklin would have trouble starting on a Georgetown team playing a Princeton offense, which doesn't suit him, when he just isn't as good as Monroe, Sims, or Summers. Rivers got the picture that he would backup either Chris Wright or Jessie Sapp (probably Wright because Rivers isn't a good shooter) and Wright is younger than Rivers. It is a shame, but it is understandable because he wants to start. Good luck to both the Big Ticket and Baby Doc.

Georgetown has some good talent coming in and I think that next year they will be in the top ten. Georgetown will have it tough but if they can get the offense clicking a little more they will have it made. The big east should be the top conference next year in my opinion.

fishman - thanks for the apology - that's better.  And yeah, he DID usually do a good job.  Yes, Derrick Rose was better than him. Does that come as a surprise to you?

He's from FL, will he be a Gator next season?  Any possibility of going to Boston College?

I agree that we'll be fine without him. Rivers played a lot, but barely averaged any points worth mentioning. Davidson ripped him apart, but that Cinderella ripped many other teams apart too.

As for Macklin... Well, let's just wave then get back to our lives. He never really impressed me when he played this season. Perhaps it was because of who he was backing up, but still. You want a solid player you can trust coming off the bench when your premiere center sits down due to foul trouble or simply to catch a breath.

I can't wait to see the young talent coming in and the existing talent return for yet another run at the Big East title! I know the Hoyas can make it 3 regular season championships in a row!

The Washington Times is reporting that he will be transferring to Indiana University to play for Tom Crean. It also reports that Doc Rivers was not happy with his son's decision. Perhaps Jeremiah thinks he can learn something from Crean, who has done a good job with Jerel McNeal, Dominic James and Wesley Matthews.
