Chuck33 - Some exercise their faith through religion.  I suppose you could have faith of 'no God', but then, you cannot ask for proof of God from believers, as this would make you a hypocrite. Yet most of the non-believers have asked for proof of God.

I do not ask for proof of no god.  There can not be proof of any kind.  Ever.  Until you die.  Then its too late for you to tell me.  So faith is the only "proof" you have.  I do have faith that there is no god.  I do not care if you feel the same as I do.  I am perfectly happy in not believing.  I am a well adjusted person who doesn't kill or rob or sleep with wonton women behind my wife's back.  I raise my kids well.  I teach them to treat everyone fairly and not to curse.  I do that without religion to guide me.  I do not need it.

The one thing I ask is this, when the time comes, and you are on your way to hell...whoa there boy.  I am not going to hell because I don't believe in fire and brimstone.  And if you do, fine.  But really, is fear guideing you?  Do you have to use fear in your life?

The concept of heaven and hell is a fear of what really happens to our dead.  So we create a heaven and a hell.  I call that denial.  Afraid of the truth.

Wow, then you attend the only church (or establishment)  in the history of mankind that somehow is able to stay running without turning a profit.  How much money was your priest, or pastor making while you worked there?  You must have been their accountant if you knew where every dime was going
Apparently you are using the term as 'gross' profit for some reason in place of 'net' profit. The pastor made a modest salary.. well below the value of the work and hours he put into the Church and the works it did. The majority of other people were all volunteer as they only worked part time helping out. This is how most Churches function.. the more charitable works a church does obviously the more help it needs from members. When a member fills a position that requires full time hours obviously this individual deserves to be paid for that time... his/her family has to eat as well :) After all Bills are paid including modest salaries.. what is left is what would be considered 'profit'.. NONE of which goes to any member of the Church nor it's pastors. That money is what is used for charity and various works to help those in need. This is how most Churches work. Continuing to judge all Churches based on a few bad apples that get all the press is not very just :)
The church does do some good, I never said they didn't.  What unfounded accusations have I made?  You saying your church isn't corrupt is like me saying our government isn't corrupt.  My bad.. you 'insinuated'.. about all Churches.. that would appear as unfounded accusations :)

Not trying to smart here Payton but this does seem very hypocritical.  Basically, regardless of how ou live your life, god will only accept you if you "go to him".
You're missing the point.. it's not about Him 'accepting you'.. He has already accepted and forgiven you. It's all about you accepting that it's a done deal and it doesn't matter what you've done or how you've lived your life, He loves you regardless and has already accepted you.. 'as you are'. I think I see where you are misunderstanding my statements. Obviously not all religions agree and some will not agree with me on this. You are assuming you will be judged in the end and if you don't accept Him you are condemned? I don't believe His judgment is for all and is 'up or down'. His judgment is concerning treasures in Heaven based on the life you led and is for those who come to Him for judgment. Those who do not believe and do not come to Him are already condemned to a life without Him.. it is not His judgment which does so.

Basically, regardless of how ou live your life, god will only accept you if you "go to him".  Now if I live my life in the way that he supposedly wants me to without actually believing in him, he will not accept me when the time comes.  What about the opposite?  If I live my life the opposite way he wants but "go to him" when the time comes, will her accept me?Ravens - you are right on the button.  Quintessential to christian thought and particular to evangelicals, this is key.  Lets say Hitler asked god for forgiveness before he died.  Would god let him into heaven or send him down to hell.  According to christianity, he would be.  The fact that a maniac like Hitler or Stalin or Bush could be in heaven because they asked for forgiveness is just stupid.  What a great religion, huh?  And have you heard about the baptism for the dead thingy that the mormans do?  Sick and wrong.  All religions do stupid things.  But come on!!!

ah ok.  so your church is ok with abortion, gay rights, etc.  they have no political agenda, right?Since when is abortion and homosexuality confined to the political arena? I'm against animal cruelty as well and yell at the neighbors kids for throwing rocks at squirrels.. I guess that makes me a political activist??? My pastor can speak out against abortion without having a 'political agenda'.Churches who follow their doctrines do NOT play any roll in politics.. a pastor or preacher can personally endorse whatever he likes, but the Church itself is without political agenda. There are obviously some who violate this.. but it is more definitely the exception rather than the rule.
by the way, if you're catholic, your church is part of the wealthy organization in the world.  don't tell me they don't make money. I'm in no way Catholic and as I've stated numerous times disagree with much within the Roman Catholic Church :) I would also disagree with any Church that had expensive statues or paintings that were not donated.. it's just odd that many seem to paint that as common with Churches when it is simply not the truth. Watching televangelists is not the best way to gauge what a Church is all about.

once again, your god is an ego-maniac.  you're basically saying that it doesn't matter how terrible of human you are as long as you "find jesus" before you die.  great logic.  i'd rather be a decent human and burn in "hell" with the other logic souls than spend the rest of "eternity" with murders, rapist and other questionable characters who happen to "find jesus" before they died.  put down the kool-aid already.I'll say this once more.. those who choose to listen fine, those who wish to continue to paint it how they want.. that's fine too. He accepts EVERYONE, not simply those who 'find Jesus'. It's not a question of getting Him to accept you, it's simply you accepting Him. Think of it this way.. two boys walking down the street lost heading to a dead end.. one is a good kid the other a delinquent. The street they are walking down is empty but in a house in the other direction there is a man who happens to be the parent of the boys and is wanting them to come home. The delinquent remembers his father and realizes he doesn't want to continue down the dead end street, while the good kid doesn't realize he has a father.. he continues being good, but continues down the road to the same dead end none the less because he knows no better. The father loves them both and would accept both with open arms.... it's their choice.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller says he won't attend Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals because it's being played on a Sunday.

Miller, a member of the Mormon church, says he won't attend because of religious reasons. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encourages members to avoid non-religious activities on Sundays.

Miller told the Salt Lake Tribune he probably won't watch the game on TV or listen on radio, but his wife might watch the game and give him updates while he takes a long drive.

Its not the first time he's done it. Won't be the last. But this still bug the sh_t out of me. Man up you jerk. He is not that devout of a morman. He purposely sends out media notes that he will be a faithful mormon on Sundays but he is a foul-mouthed son-of-a-bit_h.

He feeds the faithful a bunch of BS. Folks, he doesn't deliver. I know this guy. He's a jerk.
