Mediocre defense. Strikes out alot. Can count on him for nothing in a key situation. Can we promote from the minor league system?

I'll admit he's not exactly the best 3rd basemen in the league. I think we could probably bring someone up or pick up someone in a trade for a long term fix. But in the meantime he's done just fine.

I like Troy Glaus. He is walking a bunch, piling up the doubles, and doing a good job of driving in runs. Even though he has just one dinger to this point, he's doing enough offensively to be an asset. He may no longer be a 40+ homer guy like he was earlier in his career, but he'll be a solid 3B for us all season, health permitting. And TLR won't run him out there every day. Glaus will be given enough time off to maximize his chances of staying off the DL.
Troy Glaus will be fine.

I don't understand why Cards fans rip on him so much.
I mean, he is leading the league in doubles, the team in RBI's, and he has had two consecutive games with excellent defensive heads-up plays.
Troy Glaus is a semi-well rounded player who (when he doesn't have "pink eye" or whatever that was) can put together decent at bats.
Sure he is no gold glover, but I feel pretty comfortable with him on the corner.
Anyone agree?

Glaus is fine, It doesn't always take HRs to win games. OBP is a better offensive measure. The numbers Glaus is putting up may not look inspiring, but if he actually gets on a hot streak look out. He is in that position in the order that he couldn't help but drive in runs. As it is he leads the team in RBI. That means even when sacrificing he's being VERY productive. As for the doubles that's a pretty good sign. It means he's at least running the bases efficiently. Thus, his foot is a non issue at this point. The biggest plus of all is that B Ryan is better playing 3rd defensively. So there is someone waiting in the back, once Izturis is playing regularly again. Izturis is also a surprise in the offensive dept. He has a pretty good number of walks and he's making a fair amount of contact. He's never going to be great but at this point we have to be realistic about the options that were available around the beginning of the season. The final word on Glaus is he is just competent enough to keep it rolling along. When he played for the Angels and they won the series he was a very cool customer. He is not prone to anxiety that I can tell. He is going to improve I believe as the season progresses. I think the Jays corrupted him with their lethargy. This is an exciting line up to watch, even if the numbers don't wow you, I feel that it is better to be consistant and keep the fire burning than to throw gasoline on it. It's a long season. We'll see what happens._EK

The only thing Glaus is good for is the team photo. We need to trade for Josh Fields from the White Sox or go and Eric Chavez when he returns to Oakland in the two weeks.

He's driving in runs, he's getting on base, and he's been decent at 3B. Not to mention when his bat catches fire for a few weeks he can't stop raking.
I'm not sure what team photo's you were looking at. As long as he stays off the DL, and keeps doing what he's doing, we're going to keep plowing along with a consistent offense.

I don't know about wanting to make too many changes. We're in first place in what is turning out to be a very competitive division, at least so far.
If we were stuck in the mud like Detroit is, then you make a bunch of changes to shake things up.
This is why I don't like the idea of handing the ball to Mulder in anything other than a mop up role. Take last night as a fer instance. Pineiro didn't pitch well, but who won the ball game.
What would the outcome be if Mulder gives up 8 runs in two innings and stikes out at the plate, where Pineiro drove in 2 with his bat? pipe
