If anyone read what was going on they'd realize that the arrogant NFL, acting like they always do, is just trying to extort more money for their stupid channel.  The problem is the NFL is asking for Comcast to charge more money per subscriber for their pathetic excuse of a sports network than any other cable channel such as ESPN, CNN, MTV or any of the other crap out there.  If the Estrogen Channel tried to pull this crap everybody would be up in arms but nooooooo, its the precious nfl network.  Instead of bitching at Comcast why don't you ask your representatives in Congress why Direct TV was allowed to be the only carrier out there to broadcast the NFL Sunday Ticket.  Now that's corruption I can get my hands around.  BTW, Comcast is no angel in this either.  If they had a way to extort customers for more of their hard earned money they would do it in a heartbeat.

you are exactly right and i was with you until you hit that last line...why make a vague comment about extorting money, they are a company that offers you services that you want...

Guys, Just to let you know, Charter Communications in the midwest is also being stupid about the NFL network and doesnt even give people the option of having it.  We can't even sign up for NFL network with Charter.  Want to know why?  NFL network gave Charter free advertising on its channel and told Charter to put it in the basic service plan.  Well what did Charter do?  They started charging people for it and did not tell NFL network and when NFL network found out, they told Charter to knock it off and stop charging customers because Charter was getting a ton of free advertising and Charter said we are gonna keep charging.  SO NFL network pulled the plug with Charter.  And Charter is still being bullish about wanting to charge people for a channel they are getting free advertising on.  What a joke.  Cable companies are such a rip off. But satellite is so unreliable!!  The problem here is definetly not NFL network, but Charter.  I mean Charter even pulled their HD channel with CBS because Charter wanted to charge more money for the HD CBS signal!!  What a joke of a cable company!  Them and Comcast are con artists!!

I must be one of those "stupid" people. When I read this article, I get the sense that NFL Network wants to be on basic cable packages with the likes of their other channels (Versus and The Golf Channel), and not be part of the premium package.

Damn, I hate being stupid. (sarcasm for the really stupid people)

they do want it to be in basic, but they want a decent amount from every subscriber.  thats why.  Comcast put it as a premium package so that the people that dont want it arent forced to pay more for it.

The problem is with Comcast and not the NFL.  If DirecTV and the Dish Network can offer it on their basic package, so can Comcast.  Comast is being greedy.  They want the NFL to lower its rate so that they can make more money.  While the NFL may charge service providers a little higher rate than say ESPN, they also provide a better advertising package for service providers to more than make up for the difference.  Comcast wants a lower rate and the advertising package.  You can't have it all.

EXactly! Comcast wants equal access to NFL content that DirecTV has.  NFL is crazy if they think Comcast isn't playing nicely.  They've got exclusive content on DTV!   Gets much deeper yet.  Comcast Sportsnet Philly, is not available on dishes, due to neatly crafted laws that exclude land line distributed channels from being on dish.  NFL wants to crack into Philly region (4th largest TV market) but no sports fans in Philly have DTV.  Phillies, 6ers, Flyers are only on CSN.  Comcast is going to do the same thing in the other markets it's attacking.  NY, SF, CHicago, etc  So there's a network/content/broadcast war brewing.  It's going to get real ugly.  NFL and Comcast both need to be knocked down in my opinion.  too much moolah.  too much power.  I love NFL but I hope Arlan Spector before he goes can bring them under control.

So let me get this straight...comcast charges me $5 extra for NFL network currently. I pay $60 a month for basic and half comcast HD services(before NFL channel charge).  NFL network wants to be put on Comcast basic packaging like direct TV who charges about $40 for service and I can get more HD channels. How does anyone think this will cost me more than $5 a month. I guess I am a stupid person with a degree in economics, I guess I just don't get it. Go NFL give me the product for less than I am paying now...go nfl!

there are 13 channels that you get for $5 a month in the sports teir.  if each channel was put into basic cable and we'll say each channel wants .35 a month per subscriber (nfl crooks most likely wants more than that)...comcast would then raise EVERY customer's bill by 4.55 just to cover expenses...so because of this a NY supreme court ruled in favor that comcast is doing a service to their customers to actually put this on a seperate teir...think outside of yourself for one minute and this will make sense.
