For those of you keeping score at home Chase Utley just hit his 10th round tripper of the season taking a 1 homerun lead over the Kansas City Royals.

We need a live chicken in here so Jobu will lift the curse off our bats.

PS.. does anyone else think that one of the most amzing/embarrassing stats in baseball is that our all-time single season homerun record is 36 by Steve Balboni?  How did we make it through the steroid era without someone hitting 37+?  For crying out loud Brady Anderson hit 51.

For a franchise about to reach 40 years old, it is somewhat embarrassing that we've never had a player go deep 40 times in a season.  Granted, the K is not a power hitters paradise but its also not the grand canyon.  However, most every year the Royals do hit more homers on the road than they do at home.  I thought maybe Bo Jackson would do it, but unfortunately he couldn't stay healthy before learning good plate discipline.  I wouldn't be too surprised if Butler couldn't do it say 4-5 years into his career, he has the frame for it.  I'd rather see him just trying to put a good swing on the ball like he's doing now rather than swinging for the fences.  Gordon could also mature powerwise to someday contend for 35-40 HR power.

Quick update.

The Royals are turning this competition into a route as they now lead Chase Utley in homers 16-13.
