I seriously doubt Anderson would've been successful on the Ravens (that is if the Ravens actually gave him a shot at starting to begin with). The protection and playbook just would not allow it. Just like how i seriously doubt Tom Brady would make a difference for us. Anderson getting out of here was the best thing that ever happened to him.
This is why i believe Boller - the former first round pick, Smith - the heisman man winner, and Flacco (imo the best QB in the draft this year), all have an equal shot at being successful - because we have a new Cam Cameron lead offense and new OL coach. If ozzie still truly believes the OLman we have on the roster are starting material, we will find out for sure when the new coaching staff tries to make something of them.
Come on Monkeyrunner! The Ravens should be so lucky to have Boller play well and they get "stuck" with two good QB's. LOL.....yeah right. I think Boller deserves his chance with the new regime if nothing else for all the crap he went through with that great offensive genius we used to have.
Am I actually on a thread where people are posting that Boller will mentor and could possibly be the next DA with a trip to the Pro Bowl!!??? Do you all forget the blunders this guy has encountered in his career? First off, I was one of the last fans to finally give up on Boller. It came the first year we had McNair in an exhibition game against Philly. Boller had two or three WR open in the second half and underthrew them every time. He has the same problem today. We WILL NEVER win with him under center.
If you listened to the pre-draft presser, Ozzie made two profound statements that I believe will play out over the next few months. He admitted that the organization made a mistake with Boller when they named him the starter as a rookie. Translation - NO way Flacco sees the field before November/December. Secondly, he stated that we made a mistake by not having a veteran presence to assist Boller and Redman. Translation - don't be surprised if the Ravens don't sign a veteran QB (Trent Dilfer) to bring Smith and Flacco along and Boller gets cut before training camp. He is only signed for one year. 2008 WILL be his last year in a Ravens uniform.
By the way - DA is overrated. Watch his numbers tumble in '08. As a matter of fact, I predict Brady Quinn will be under center by mid-year for the Browns. They will NOT sneak up on anyone this year and a second place schedule is much tougher than last year's fourth place schedue.
While we are playing Oakland and Miami. Pittsburgh gets New England and San Diego. Cleveland gets Denver and Buffalo. Very clearly, we have the easier draw.
I agree with your assesment of DA...I wrote similarly that i expect Brady to be starting by 2009 latest......
I hope we do sign a veteran like Dilfer, although i read on another thread someone talking about Billy Volek, since he already knows Cam Cameron's offense from his SD days might be a better fit for us.....
And Boller is aweful.....the guy cant make plays. period....his game against Carolina he had two td's on plays that should have been picks taken to the house but instead were tipped up to clayton who scored.....i have seen alot of Ravens game and he always disappoints me without fail...........
You know, getting Billy Volek is a fantastic idea. I have always thought he was an excellent QB who never got his shot. Wasnt he a first round pick by the Titans? But Steve McNair became a superstar and he never got his shot. And then they got Vince Young and he wanted out. He was on the Chargers last year and when he got his chance he played great. This guy hasn't had a chance to really start but has had a great deal of expereince learning in the nfl. If we picked him up we would have a good mentor for our young QBs and i think he could even compete for the starting job.
I think the game started to slow down for Kyle when he had some protection up front. He had a pretty decent year last season completing over 60% of his passes, and he connected on the longest pass plays of the year.
If Terry Bradshaw had been treated like Boller, he would've been out of the league after his first 3 seasons. The light didn't come on for Bradshaw until his 6th season (How did that idiot ever get into the HOF).
So with a new O-coordinator like Cameron, and an O-line that might be able to pass block, you never know what kind of results you'll get from your QB.
Hey did anyone see the interviews with Kyle and Troy Smith after practice. LOL Troy didn’t know Flaccos name. he called him John. Personally I like the pick and also like all 3 QBs, I like the pick because odds are in our favor now of finding a franchise QB. I think anyone of them still can be it. Im rooting for consistency from anyone of them. Im a Troy fan, and still haven’t given up hope on Boller.
Thanx. wrote that on another thread. I like Billy Volek too. He backed-up Steve McNair when he was with the Titans and he played some last year, or was it the year before, when Philip Rivers got hurt.
He has an ok arm, with good speed. But he has great intangibles. He's intelligent, has good huddle presense, an intense competitor, is a great teammate, and knows how to handle himself on and off the field. He would be a great mentor.
