Well, the favorite won and we can only hope he can give us a tripple crown this year. It's about time we've had one and I'd like a tripple crown winner before I die. (I'm 17, for those wondering.)

On another note, I feel really bad for the owners of Eight Belles, what a horrible experience it must be for them that their horse had to be put down right after winning second...

I agree...dominating win (apparently Big Brown has won his last 4 races by 34 lengths) again.  This horse may actually do it.  1st from the 20th gate--hasnt been done since 1929!

And what a tragedy for 8 Belles...it makes it tough to watch.

Big Brown looked impressive. A strong powerful finish. I've seen three Triple Crowns and it is time for another. Good luck to Big Brown in two weeks at the Preakness. A heart breaking finish for the second place horse, the filly Eight Belles. That was so sad. Tragic. Big powerful animals but so fragile at the same time.

Big Brown ran an amazing race today. I think we will see another Triple Crown this year. I have been watching Horse Racing for a long time and this horse has explosive speed and can turn it on at will.

Horrible thing to see the philly go down after such a great week. She ran in the Kentucky Oaks yesterday and won. Then comes back today with another spectacular performance. Very sad to see her be put down.

Finishing a courageous second behind what could be one of the best horses of our generation is our final and lasting image of a great filly.

R.I.P. Eight Belles

gb4ny,

Eight Belles did not run yesterday in the Oaks...that race was won by her stablemate, Proud Spell.

Condolenses to the connections of Eight Belles.  What a sad ending for a brilliant race horse.

To the winner - Big Brown, I really like his chances in two weeks.  Unless he has a bad trip, there's not a horse who raced today who can touch him.  Guess is he wins by 5+ lengths the next time out, setting up the stage for the first triple crown in 30 years.

My family and I always go to Damons and watch the Derby on the big screens. We've done this now for the past 10 years or so. As the place was getting louder and louder down the backstretch and Big Brown starting to dominate, all that excitement suddenly went away and the place went silent when they showed Eight Belles lying helplessly on the track. As a grown man I had my hand over my mouth in utter disbelief. Very sad ending to such a great race and great tradition. My condolences go out to all the people involved with Eight Belles.

Congratulations to Big Brown and best of luck!

I'd picked Big Brown, Eight Belles and Adriano as my big 3...I was really cheering for Eight Belles the whole way. I'm heartbroken for her owners and all the people
