It's still early in the season, but I think some of the complaints about Jackson in the cleanup spot should quiet for a little bit. Not only is he hitting better with runners in scoring position (.583) than any other player on the team, but he's leading the National League and is <a href="http://www.hardballtimes.com/thtstats/main/index.php?view=batting&linesToDisplay=50&orderBy=baRisp&direction=DESC&qual_filter=1&season_filter%5B%5D=2008&league_filter%5B%5D=All&pos_filter%5B%5D=All&Submit=Submit"> third in all of baseball. His .1223 OPS is the highest on the team and third in all of baseball. He's second in MLB in RBI with 17, sixth in OBP at .473, is batting .364 and has 7 walks against only two strikeouts. Obviously these numbers won't stay this high all season, but I think what he's done is show that raw power isn't the only way to be effective at the cleanup spot.

He's having a great start, that's for sure AZCatsFan, but like you said, it's early. I'm glad he's proving me wrong thus far. I care more about seeing a team win than being right in circumstances like this.  But he's not out of my dog house yet, because he's not the only one on this team that's starting out incredibly. Reynold and Upton are having marvellous early season AB's as well. But for NoJack to get off my S-List, he's going to have to keep this up for a while. I'm not expecting the ridiculous numbers, but he has to be consistent and slowly let his numbers crawl back down to reality. Nobody bats .500 with RISP for a season.
If at mid-season is he looking to be on pace for a .300 average, 35 HR's, and 110 RBI's, then I'll be fine with him in the closing role.

Geez. I don't know what happened there. I provide a couple of links and it destroys my thread. I hope you could read some of it.
My point from the beginning of the season was that a cleanup hitter shouldn't be judged only on his ability to hit the ball out of the park. That's not Jackson's game, but he brings enough positives that it makes up for it. What's the difference between hitting 35 HRs and 25 2Bs and hitting 25 HRs and 35 2Bs if the player gets a high number of RBI?

Conor Jackson has been great so far. He is sure proving us Diamondbacks fans wrong. I think he is doing better because he knows that he does not have anyone pushing him for playing time. Chris Burke is the backup first baseman for now.
Last 4 games:
8-16, 7 R, 1 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, 10 RBI
Of course, I am facing someone that has CoJack in a head-to-head fantasy league, but the D-Backs come before fantasy leagues, and I am happy he is doing well. As long as the D-Backs can get production from the middle of the order, they should be able to win more games.
If Jackson has some sort of season like this:
.285 AVG, 25 HR, 90 RBI
...then I will be satisfied. He is currently exceeding my expectations, but I am not sold on him yet.

Conor has turned himself into a really good hitter, he already had a nice swing but he is all over the ball this year. I wouldn't mind seeing him 3rd, Reynolds 4th and Upton 5th, stick Byrnes in 6th. That may be a few months off but I could see it if Reynolds can maintain some consistency.

I think that Melvin has found a great way to set the lineup. It's hard to believe I'm saying that with O-Dog at 3rd, but it has really worked so far. That also goes for CoJack, there's nowhere else to put him really. I could see him switching with Reynolds for 5th, but right now CoJack is white hot and the lineup is producing LOTS of runs!

Boy Nater i bet that hurt to say that didnt it? after all the negative things you had to say about him in a different link, you are having to eat your word. I LOVE IT! .300 will happen, 110 might happen, but 35 HR's isnt... so if he goes .320 25hr's 40 2b's 100 rbi's would you be satisfied? probably not cuz you couldnt stand the kid a couple months ago and wanted him traded. I will make sure I tell you I told you so. Look for .330 13hr's 22 2b's & 48 rbi's at the break. Oh BTW zero errors in 177 chances. Pretty good numbers for a bum huh? betcha you wont be looking to trade him now. Also bet ya picked him up on a fantasy team or 2... LOL!

DBacksR4Real: Honestly, it's better that he is starting the year of hot, it means that his trade value will be higher if/when the Diamondbacks opt to trade him. I know you're tooting your own horn here, but remember it is only April, and there is only about 1/6 of the season gone thus far. Frankly, it's not hard for me to admit that he's having a better year than I expected. I'd rather see him and the team doing well than to be right in these types of circumstances.
As far as fantasy baseball is concerned, I just picked him up this morning in one of my leagues, more for trade bait than anything since it is in a D-backs league afterall (so any of you on here that are in that league, if you're interested in picking up NoJack, lemme know!). I wouldn't have picked him up, except he's the third hottest 1B right now. Personally, I really don't see him keeping this current tear going for another month.
So yes, NoJack is proving me wrong thus far. Yes I picked him up for his value in my fantasy league. But no, I'm not on the NoJack train yet.
Now it would be a real shame since you're tooting your horn so early if NoJack goes into a severe slump and starts proving you wrong after opening your mouth so big. I'm openly admitting that NoJack is proving me wrong thus far, no excuses. So when he starts proving you wrong I expect to see you on here just as fervently admitting that you were wrong, no excuses, and no hiding.
