This only means that Tom Crean will need an extra year or two to rebuild the program. Most of these changes in terms of those not reinstated only gets rid of the quinessential "dead wood".

Good move for IU, it will pay off in the future.

Its starting to look like the other ten teams in the Big Ten will get a bye week from the boys in Bloomington. I guess we will see how a whole team of walk-ons will perform.

im wondering the actual situation in indiana. i mean with not reinstating players, allowing players to transfer without really trying to keep them ... makes me think we could be banned for 2008-2009. i mean since when is indiana ok with being full of walk-ons?

I agree helmet, go ahead and let them all leave. You know it was because they would no longer be getting some "benefit" that was promised by Cellvin Sampson.

Even though I am not an IU fan I hope Crean can bring them back within the next couple of years to the point they are making the NCAA tourney.

Kelvin should be shot for what he has done to OU and IU, what a turd you are Kelvin.

It looks like he's completely cleaning house and starting from scratch, but I bet a lot of it has to do with grades (IU had finals this week).

The recruiting that Tom Crean has done in the past month has been nothing short of amazing considering the circumstances. Next year's team will be short on experience for sure, but he'll hand out a few more scholarships before it's all said and done.

This is probably for the best. The Indiana team with D.J. White and Eric Gordon is gone. Some of the other guys on this team had some issues, evidenced by the temper tantrum. Tom Crean has some decent recruits coming in with him, and he will build up this team. He is a smart, and successful coach who know how to stay out of NCAA violations. He could lead the program back to prominence again after the last few years of underperforming hoosier teams.

I don't think I'd read too much into these dismissals/transfers where the NCAA situation is concerned. I think all of these guys had baggage that they were unable to clean up to Coach Crean's liking. Last years team had a lot of cancer and Coach appears to be surgically removing it. He has spent the last month with these guys and I would guess he established a set of goals that they appear to have all failed to complete.

Where Pudge Thomas is concerned, there was a statement that was attributed to Crean that he "was not a good fit for the program", which is true based on Crean's up tempo style of play.

This was what needed to happen, unfortunately. I don't mind losing Ellis and Thomas b/c I don't think their demeanor was up to IU standards but I really thought that Bassett was better than this. And I agree that grades more than likely played a HUGE if not FINAL factor in the outcome of this drawn out situation.

I give Crean huge props for doing what he feels is right..... GO HOOSIERS!!!!!

I love to see IU getting what it deserves. They tried to cut corners with Sampson, and now they will have to take the long road back. Good thing for them that Crean is a good coach and solid recruiter, however the Hoosier faithful are not all that patient. Its a good time to be a walk-on in Bloomington, they don't have but a handful of scholarship players.....the Northwestern vs. IU games are going to be top-notch this year.

The basketball team is supposed to be made up of students. I am afraid Sampson built a team of athletes who don't go to go to class, smoked pot, and party all the night. Maybe Basset, Thomas, & Holman can all transfer to West Virginia.
