I agree with you. Based on his stats, and the situation with the team currently I say bring him up. I did see him pitch in fall ball, he was a reliever, and in my opinion not overly impressive. He wasn't bad, he didn't give up any runs for the two innings he pitched, but I suppose I was expecting him to blow people away.
100% agree that Edgar Gonzalez is a long reliever. He is perfect in that role. He can throw two or three innings with no problem, but he is a very sketchy starter. Either good, or really bad.
The team has nothing to lose. If Scherzer doesn't work out, Doug Davis will be back in six weeks. If he does, they can find a way to work him into the rotation or the bullpen. Scherzer is not that young either, I believe he's 23-24, not too young when you look at the rest of the team.
